How much bandwidth does a relatively popular server use over a month(eg Crackaz)?

How much bandwidth does each player need(kB/s)?

Wow, not sure. Never even thought to think about it. Don't even know how to check on that.

Check this tutorial (http://unreal.epicgames.com/utServers.htm) for info on running an Unreal engine server. It includes how to figure bandwidth requirements per player. In my experience, the BW requirements he mentions are a little low for Thievery, though accurate enough for UT.

That's the important one(for me anyway). My ISP gives me a bandwidth monitor tool(it's only updated daily, though), so that could be a way to find out.

Worst case scenario:
8 players * 5000 * 60 sec * 60 min * 24 hours = 3,456,000,000b = ~3.5GB/day
Around 100 GB over a month of constant use.

If it were used 25% of the time it would still be 25GB/month.

That's a lot of bandwidth, too much, in fact. :(

Will we be seeing a "Wraiths Ghosting Server" if you can get this figured out?

That would be awesome, having a dedicated ghosting server up. Some days I'm really disappointed that ToB's Ghosting Server is no longer up.

I had thought that maybe I could host a server if I was able to buy a new machine(which I should be able to do soon) and keep this net speed(which I found out is probably not going to happen). The type was undecided(either ghost or co-op, unsure of how many players). Friendly fire would have been on in either case(at least 50%).

I've missed the ToB server as well. :(

hi online

i got a sdsl line running with 1 Mbits. it seems as it can handle about 20 ppl. sometimes i switched it to 15 ppl. running very well, sometimes to 17 ppl, running still very well.

so if u mean the transfervolumina:

in the beginning with my server work i kept an eye of my transfers.
i keep a server running about 12 hours with 10 ppl on. not constantly of course, sometimes lower than 10. it used about 500 mb for that. so if u go for 24 ur around 1,0 to 1,5 gb.

i switched 10 000 bytes per second.

ur brody

OMG I see something I haven't seen in a long time!

Thanks for the info, Brody.

Welcome, Brody!

Yeah, I hope we'll be seeing more of that ghosting server, Salvage.
