I am using a Radion 9700 and I have some graphical corruption. When I look at flames and such I see weird boxes surround the flames. Why does this happen and can it be fixed?

I know, I have the same problem. But I guess it has something to do with the Direct3D-engine. Don't think Thievery is to blame. I've tried to updated the drivers for my GeForce 4: Ti2200, didn't solve the problem.
You could put in a Voodoo card and use OpenGl though! ;)

I have a Radeon 9700, but I don't have any problems with TUT or UT.
I am using the Catalyst 3.0 drivers:

these require directx 9. I've had no problems with DX9 on Win98 SE.

Slappy: This isn't actually a problem, it's just an irritating graphical "error". I'll try to put up a screenshot soon.

Here's the graphical error Mairic is talking about:
See the red squares surrounding the flame?

Those flames are produced by several intersecting rectangular textures. What you're seeing is the part of the texture that's supposed to be transparent. Try adjusting the brightness of your monitor down and the contrast up, and the effect might lessen or disappear altogether. I doubt that's a problem with your card or video drivers.

I doubt that as well.
But, I don't mind that "error" at all. It's just when I take a close-up view of a torch I can see the squares.
