View Full Version : Pimping Zombie Panic

It's gone open beta! :D

A mod with a team of survivors and one zombie. Each time the zombie kills a survivor, that survivor respawns as a zombie, until all survivors are dead. Survivors have to kill zombies until all the zombie lives are used up and zombies can't respawn anymore.

The mod is relatively small, and is in essence just a test medium to test some gameplay features until it gets ported to Source. The current (official) map lineup is low quality, but that's excusable since they only serve as gameplay testmaps. Several people (including me) are working on higher quality maps.

Overall it's a really fun mod. There are plenty servers and people to play with, and if you use teamwork hax, playing a survivor can be really exciting (survivor-zombie wins are about 1 to 9, baanced in favor of the zombies on purpose (adds to suspense)).

Stakhanov and me are allready playing this mod, I go by the name of Scribbles. Hope to see you online. :p

Really? Nice.

Edit : Okay, I'm on the site now and I see nothing that looks like a free HL. Do I have to install steam?

I downloaded the steam client off Fileplanet a while back, which had Counter-Strike and Half Life already in it.

I think you'll probably have to install it first then download it through steam.

Very addictive mod. Although the survivors never seem to win, not while I played anyway.

How do you do this? I've checked through the steam client program and found nothing that involved H-L.

I'd get it, but getting HL to run on ma compy isn't the best of ideas: it's slow beyond compare.

*pulls a processor out o his pocket*

Maybe it's time i installed this thing.

Jeah, it's best to join a dedicated server. There are a few around with good pings. The Jahmon server is good for Europeans, I get a ping of 20 there.

I don't think you cant actually get HL for free. The reason you can play CS and DOD is because they are Valve's supported mods, and thus don't need HL to run.

Hard to believe that some people never bought halflife. :/
You're missing out on alot.

Whew, just spent the last two-three hours on some Server called "Pimpeh's" (or something). Great pings and if ya do the ol "Voice_enable 0" its perfect >;p

For just some beta i think its very good, Maps are okay. Btw people should be warned, theres a lot of camping, but thats heavily part of the game (if ya go alone youre fodder) and can be overcome...just tease them to make em waste their ammo and then swarm em :guard:

Really fun all around, being Zombie is cool (of course) and being Survivor is cool too. Most remarkable : Lots of Teamplay. Ive seen and participiated in : Sharing ammo, attacks from behind while other distract, Full scale rushs of whole Zombie teams into a fortified position, flanking (so to speak), besieging (situations were small groups of survivors were encircled by several Zombies waiting for one making a move or mistake) etc etc.

My personal highlight : As a Zombie sneaking around two survivors sitting on some big tipped over crate wielding shotguns. The position was only reachable by a few exposed jumps and they kept waxing Zombies trying to get em. I was running around below them staying out of range for a good shot, was being hit by some potshots now and then. Finally one ran out of ammo and jumped down at one side and tried to make a run for some ammo nearby. There were lots of bigger crates between me and him and he possibly thought i hadnt noticed it and planned to shoot me in the back after grabbing the ammo. Well, i cut of his way and slapped him in the face as he ran out of a small gap between crates. I think he was pretty surprised =p. Meanwhile the noise had attracted several other Zombies which tried to shove some crates around to reach the other one on an alternate path. Had him so distracted i managed to get onto the big crate. He couldnt back off more without falling down so he sent a flurry of buckshots my way and on the brink to death i managed to whack him. Whew. Ah but there were so many other cool situations too (like giving some buddy a shoulder to reach a survivor which camped on a lamp...or waxing three Zombies in a row wif teh shotty) :D. Good game.

i even owned abit despite not having played online for ages..made third and second place alot and after some people which were suspiciously accurate with the shotgun and magnum left i even made first a few times =O yay me

EDIT : Could be i played most on one called "JahMon's Pwn of the Dead" , not sure, "Pimpeh's" is good too.

It's not hard to kill zombies with the shotgun or magnum. Once you get used to the hitboxews, you can get alot of oneshot kills. That's why you should never stand still around survivors, headshots are very deadly.

I think my greatest moment was when two survivors had teamed up. One had a magnum, the other a handgun. When zombies are close enough to survivors, they can hear them talk (and vice versa), and this one guy was constantly yelling: "He's there! behind the barrel! SHOOT HIM AHH!" and the other guy was trying to convince him to wait and save ammo, but he didn't and ran out. That's when I leaped out and killed him. The other guy spontaniously panicked, threw his guns and ammo everyone and tried to run for it, until a teammate zombie cut him off and we both sandwitched him.

In particulary nasty situation, people actually do get nervous a bit, and you hear them whimper over the mic. It's beautifull.

Yeah sorry, I believe I made a mistake in saying you could get it free, you need a cd key from one of Valve's back catalog titles e.g. cs, dod, opfor, blueshift etc to activate HL. :o

I wouldn't play Thievery if I wasn't fine with camping, but most all of the Zombie Terror maps I've played have a location that Survivors can get to, but zombies can't, either because of reduced speed, or there's only one way, and that's greeted by a shotgun to the head.

Normally that's just good strategy, but it makes rounds linger on and on and on. I say Survivors should just have to survive X minutes, instead of eliminating all zombies. THEN I can play in earnest.

Beta, beta, I know. But this is basic stuff here.

The key is in teamwork. If your rush with an entire team, or give one of your teammates a boost to get to those high places, survivors will will be reduced to shrieking zombo fastfood very fast.

The closest experience I would be able to compare survivor play with in ZP, would be this (http://members.lycos.nl/v12us/nightmare.jpg).

Considering the history of the mod and the time it took them to even get this out, I think we will be lucky to see anything more from them anytime soon.

Thread Zombiefication for another Zombie mod :guard:

If ya liked Zombie Panic, ya might as well try this (if ya dont know it already). Similar in theme, but purely Coop and Objective based (ya can be turned into a Zombie, but its more of a punishment than key element of gameplay). Has more weapons, a skill and exp system, few but imo better and bigger levels and ya can shoot bits off teh Zombers!

Heh, I have a cracked version of Half-life 2, finished it yesterday. Bummer that I don't have HL1 :P . I'm a bit too occupied with a cisco project right now (WiFi :o ) and lazy (lol) to get it. Is there a direct link to it?

Wow, i thought it would be near impossible to pirate HL2, with steam and everything, and the game CONSTANTLY wants a disc for somthing!

Dalai

HL2 doesn't need a disc if you buy it from Steam. :)

Zombie Panic is pretty fun... it's a lot like the best gametype from AvP2.

Mwahaha , love the analogy :sword:

Be sure to check the new map rhs22 - a very atmospheric manor that teases the zombies' appetite and causes the survivors to shiver in fear...

I just hope ZP : Zource will be released soon , for extra scary lightings...

For UK retail buyers they've recently removed the DVD check completely. I'm pretty certain they did the same for US retail buyers too.

It's quite possible, that's what happened with UT2k4. My point was that the game didn't constantly need the CD, only for the quick check on startup.
