View Full Version : Community Invasion of Neverwinter Nights?

Would anyone be up for a community invasion of a Neverwinter Nights server, most possibly a persistant world (PW) with high player allowance? I think it's time we went old school.. ahem.. I mean olde academy! It should be interesting to pose an element to one of these servers as either ruthless ruffians ambushing the other players, or take on the role of defenders of the innocent.. Or mix and match our alignments into White Cats (good), Grey Cats (neutral/mercenary), and Black Cats (evil) and duke it out server wide. What do you think?

Is NWN any good - I played it a little on a friends computer once but didnt see much I suppose. Is it any good multiplayer?

I could be up for this, it could be fun making up proper raid groups as well. The only proviso I would put on this is that it should be done for fun and not to ruin anyone elses day. Even if we are going to pose as evil guys, lets put some entertainment value into it as opposed to "Money Now KTHX".

You can mug ppl in game? - that's so awesome!

That is quite a broad question and in the end it really comes down to your tastes. Do you like the Dungeons and Dragons rpg system? If so, do you prefer player vs player, or cooperating with other players in an ongoing storyline (or both?)? Does letting the computer do all the action for you bother you where all you do is click and character goes into auto-fight mode, leaving spellcasting the most interactive it can get? Stuff like that. I suppose in some respects it's up to strategy and being able to adapt to the enemy tactics, but perhaps someone else can represent this better than I. As for mugging people in game, I THINK it depends on the server rules (however a thief may be able to pickpocket someone?). Not too sure as i'm not the most experienced in playing Neverwinter online. :x
Rogueknight: I agree with this, grief playing is kinda crappy (especially to the reciever) but we can't exactly expect everyone to want to play the same way.

I'm in. I don't really know any good servers to invade, but the hard-coded max players is 64 so we don't need to worry about slots.
Jakey: Yes, all PvP interactions are based on server and module settings. The server sets the "main" setting, and some areas (arenas) can override that setting. (settings include: No, only people outside your party, anyone)

A bit of scouting around should solve that issue, though we should determine our limitations. I have both expansions so i'm good for all servers.

Yeah Neverwinter Nights is awesome. Spider and I play it a couple times every week. Right now we are addicted to playing on "0 0 0 Howard's LOTR A" server. It is the most fun I've had in NWN. You really have to be careful in how you build your character and what feats you pick. You also need to be with a group...can't solo most of it.

If I had NWN I'd probably be interested, but as I don't have it this is an easy solution for me ;)

I don't know... This could be very cool but I don't want to spend so much time playing computer because I know that it's bad for me :P

Well, there are a few different server types to choose from.
I used to be pretty hardcore NWN, but I prefre the "Persistant World" realms.
They're basically role playing realms that keep your characters saved on the server rather than client side, so there are no hax3d chars and no dupes or anything. And there are strict guidelines on roleplaying. Mind you this was a couple of years ago, so I'm not sure if these realms would be very populated anymore.
Another thing, with most realms these days you need all 3 versions of NWN, that's the original and the 2 expansions. There are also a host of mods you have to download before playing too.
If we were to do this, however, I'd suggest that we either; made our own server so noone has to buy the expansions, or join a basic NWN server to play on. I trust many of you won't hack your chars, but on every server these days every character is pumped out to the max and people just fight each other and never die. Basically everyone can fly and turn into dragons so nobody dies except newbies.
Could be interesting though.

I'd lvoe to get out my old Thief character, but I've lost the CD-key and my new computer doesn't have it installed. Also, I simply do'nt have the time anymore. Sorry.

I don't have NWN, so I won't be playing.
A heads-up, though: some of the THN guys (http://thehavennet.org.uk/viewforum.php?f=62) play on a regular (weekly, I believe) basis. Perhaps you could work out something with them...

Anyways i dont have NVW, but i saw a neat package in my retailer:
NVW + the 2 expansions. 40 euros. Not bad, but i cant buy it.

I used to play NWN a lot though I was never into the pen+paper game. I spent basically all my time at a persistent world server called Realm of the Dead: Heaven vs. Hell. It's still around. It's a team based PvP/hack N' slash server. Teams are Heaven vs. Hell...go figure...and there was a strong group of Role Players there too. if it had more player slots, it would be a good server to invade .
Server saved characters are the way to go, otherwise you just play with a bunch of kiddies who hacked their characters.
I might join in if you do this.
Doing something "bad" sounds fun as long as it's not griefing and adds something to the server. Like...a group of Robin Hoods stealing from the "rich" and gives to the poor. So stolen items aren't really gone...just recycled. Just a note, that if you want to do something "bad," whatever it may be, it should be at a server were RPing is encouraged and someone should probably contact the DM beforehand about the plan. The definition of griefing will vary of player to player and you will want to make sure the DM is accepting first because I guarantee a player will complain at some point.

I like the Robin Hood idea. Except replace 'poor' with the faire maidens. ;)
We should avoid major cities and the like and live out in the lands. That'd be fun. :)

Sounds like a story I once told 3 years ago (http://www.topmudsites.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?s=431655cb64c8ffff;act=ST;f=9;t=7;st =0) (last post on the page).
Wenlin says, 'So all the dragons flew down to the village, burned down the buildings, raped the corn, and ate the women.'
You bat your eyelashes.
Wenlin says, '...to make strange dragon-corn hybrids, you know'
