Hi,

I am trying to use this picture on a blue background, but I dont want the surrounding grey color. How do I make it transparent? Im using PaintShop Pro 9, and I say "Paste as Transparent layer", but it's not really transparent on the sides. There are few pics I have with white backgrounds that I'm trying to make transparent, at one time I thought I had it working, but now I can't seem to get there again.

Colors -> Set pallette Transparancy (Convert to 256 color gif)

Choose the grey to be the transparant color with a threshold of 1, you maybe better doing the background in a color which is nothing like any other in the picture.

Hope that helps.

EDIT : I have done this for you, your my wife now!

Yeah or you could;

>Create your blue background
>paste Superman as a new layer
>select layer as 'screen'

That would also work, I think, as the grey is a neutral colour. Now, you want to buy some pegs DAAAAVE!?

@ Mach:
hmm, well it works when i first do it, and click "proof", (it makes the background checkered) but when i hit ok it turns it back to grey. (im using PSP7 at the moment, i forgot to reinstall psp9, but similar menu commands I assume)
@Fixxxer:
I will try that too. Thx

Or, just use the magic eraser with a relatively low tolerance (5-10) on the grey, and save as a .PNG yumm... full 24-bit colour ;)

PNG for the win. It has much higher colour depth.

If you are using PSP I'm sure there is a tool to choose the transaprency colour (sort of like the colour dropper) although it's a while since I used it so I may not be spot on with that advice.

you can correct PNG in IE with a small javascript that tells it to filter it, however automatically, no.

Firefox / Opera si teh win

I'm pretty sure the IE7 has fixed that problem.

hmmm ok.. it still looks gray. but when i DLd it and opened it in PSP, it turned green. But then when i take the selector tool and crop the pic and copy it, i do "Paste -> as transparent selection" into another jpg file and its still green all around it.

Even when i try to paste into different image formats, it still shows differently. See below:

That's cause jpg's dont do transparencies. Try a gif.

That would be a good first step to realize. thx.
But still, in the pic above, i show jpg, gif, and png with no luck.

-slaps head-

Take that picture I gave you, put in in Paint shop pro, and find the option "show palette transparancy" the green will dissappear!
