helps the thief make a safer getaway
What do you guys think about a tripwire? A thief would have to place it between two objects (in a doorway, between two lamp posts, etc.). It would take a couple seconds to set it up. A thief can't trip over a tripwire but guards can. When a guard trips, it should take him a couple seconds to get back up ( in the meantime, the thief he was chasing escapes and hides). The tripwire should be somewhat visible, but not too visible. If a guard should find the tripwire, he can destroy it by cutting it with a swing of his sword. The sword is the only way to get rid of it.
To sum it up, the reason for the tripwire is for the thief to make a clean getaway when being chased by a guard.
What does everyone think?

That's a unique idea. It all depends on the developers though. I don't know if they'd be too thrilled about programming another item that basically does the same thing as a blackjack does.
Assuming the devs went ahead and put it in, I'd be concerned most with game balance. I think the guards should have a chance to avoid it, especially is it's visible. Maybe they could jump over it, much like avoiding a re-worked mine.
I'm also curious as to how strong a wire and its anchor points would have to be to actually trip a charging guard in armor instead of snapping. Can we contact the Mythbusters? :D

I did a quick search. I see a definition of a tripwire as a triggering device, which I suppose could be hooked up to a mine, but if there's already mines, why make the tripwire?
It doesn't look to me that tripwires actually trip anyone, but rather trigger a trap.

Call Of Duty 2 had a mod for tripwires.
They had two grenades blow up when you go over it
But mines, you can see them more visibly. Tripwires are more concealed and hidden.

I think its a good idea :D it wouldnt be too hard for the devs to implement? UT3 already has a proceedure for falling over, lying on the ground then getting back up (hoverboard), even a small delay like that could help a thief escape a guard (as the guard loses sight of thief also)

If guards have money, they could have a circle of tripwire and they more they use, the less money.
Easy idealism.

Hmm...well I'm not opposed to the idea, but if we're going to steer away from the traditional mine, I think the thief should work harder at it. They should have to buy a tripwire or two in their loadout or steal it in game. Then have to steal a mine in game and set them up as two separate items.
I'm only saying that because I wouldn't get stuck with having to write the code for it. :D
