    Torrent Question

Last week i missed my favourite show on TV, so i've looked for it on torrent sites, after finding it i am asking the question is it illegal(UK) to download something that was recorded from an american airing even though i could have watched it on uk tv the week before an recorded my own, i also would have recorded without adverts(The file is 42 minutes long, so i presume no ads)?

I do understand that its illegal to for example download a music cd that you can buy in your local stores, or is it, which is most illegal upload(most illegal?) or download?

I don't know the relevant Uk laws, but I'm pretty sure "but it was on TV recently and I could have taped it/watched it for free" is not a valid legal argument.

You'd need a TV licence to be lawfully watching it in the UK if its on the PC or TV or iPod, any medium basically, but in terms of downloading it being law-abiding, no idea on that one, mate.

what program is it ,you have the right to tape a program to watch later in the uk as for a program from elsewhere i should imagine its not quite cricket to get it earlier than it would be shown on uk tv.oh and by the way it is not illegal to copy any software you own for backup purposes ,its just very difficult to make them when they have copy protection on them
also known as mega ,On the internet, everyone can hear you scream - it's just that no-one cares.except moses{also been known to use rapidfire}was also here before fuzzy and moses

Well, i've not use torrents for 17 months* so i dont really remember all teh rules stuff, but i got backinto it a few weeks ago when i missed an episode of a show(Greys Anatomy) i like, and since then i've downloaded all of season 6 of smallville(S06E02 was on last week), and odd episodes of that show that i keep missing. Plus some of the files are HDTV which is nice.

When in doubt, ask the experts.

    I'm thinking "no."

There's always the 'Rip the System' angle, though. Fight for fair-use, bitch. Copyright is obsolete. There are others ways for artists to make money that don't include criminalizing copyright infringement. Look up the EFF, if you'd "like to know more".

Clean from Malware, or clean as in you use dust-wipes?

keeping a computer clean from malware is impossible on any windows machine...

    ...you have windows on it

    (however, slightly more seriously)
It really is very hard to never get spy/malware on any windows machine if you're on the internet... it just happens.

Also, torrents are neither inherantly illegal, or full of spyware.

However if you use the web and torrents and p2p networks and such to download things like ooh... TV Shows, Porn, Anime... more Porn, Music.. then yeah.

People just associate "torrents" OMG ima get a viruzz!, because not all torrents are wareZ.

also as far as DRM and copy-protection goes. Making digital data uncopyable really is... a defiance of purpose. It'd be easier to turn a cat into a dog, or mr. garrison into a woman.
Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Kerio Personal Firewall (or firewall of your choice which disables internet access to an application until you grant it), Firefox, and a healthy dose of internets savvinesses™ and all your spywaer woes will be history!

    ps: you win!

    ..it's safer here.
