    windows updates backup

    Hi.

I'm going to completely reinstall my windows xp, and I wonder if I can somehow back up updating setup files as I don't feel like spending hours downloading them again.

Thank you for any help .

There was a 3rd party windows update that did that awhile ago, but last I heard Microsoft did something to kill that program and stop it working

I assume you are talking about windows updates? You can find updated winXP ISO images "out there" that have the latest updates pre-installed. Legality is a grey area but as long as you are using your own license key you should be fine.

Indeed, I found a performance edition of windows XP with all the crap taken out, all the patches up till this month pre installed. They are out there and so long as you have your own key legally I'd say your fine.

My friend needed to do exactly the same to his comp. He used this to do it. I think it saves the drivers too, so no need to search Windows Update for your ethernet controller

Or use nlite. Does the same.

    What kindof "crap" ?

i'd be interested in this because i could do with a reinstall of XP.

It removes all non-essential drivers so it's more DIY but cleaner, there are no hlp files, no desktops, no sound themes, god knows what else has been removed. Comes with Firefox preinstalled.

Honestly, I did both my machines earlier in the year with this and they're much better now, very happy with it.

Mach, I finally got around to upgrading my main pc which means my old PC becomes my new server PC...

So I formatted the server pc hdd and used the Performance Edition of XP.... Amazing! Its ridiculously faster and more responsive than the PC ever was before. Even UT3 loads up faster than it ever did when I had normal WinXP installed.

Just want to say thanks again for the info in helping me find it!

remove useless drivers, integrate your own drivers, integrate the windows updates, tweak various other things then burn the XP disk.

Can integrate your own programs to be installed, such as firefox, 7zip, utorrent etc...

    Requires an original XP CD
