Unreal Engine 4 - Now Free.

    Hi,
Thought some of you may be interested to know this:

    https://www.unrealengine.com/blog/ue4-is-free

Now would be a good time to take a good, sharp pointy stick and jab it towards anyone still working on Thievery 2 devs. .

    Chief.

2 days later and I still haven't got enough time to plunge deep inside.

Yet, for those still on the fence here's what the thing is about.

You download a "Epic Games Launcher" that once installed gives you the option to install and run 3 diferent programs:
    - Unreal Engine 4 (essentially the shinny brand new UDK, now with Unreal 4 flavour)
    - Unreal Tournament (still in pre-alpha but you can shoot bots in offline mode already, and yes it is indeed free)
    - Unreal Tournament Editor

Im assuming the new "UED" behaves more or less like UDK but tailored to UT's innards.

I will try to explore some of it in the upcoming days, but so far it seems to be a lot like UDK in the sense that it relies a lot on external assets having to be created first.

This seems I should have to buz me a new PC... Heh...

Anyway modelling and animation might be ressurected inspite having or having not UE4 installed...
Mappers do thier hard work for other people (game players namely), but if none of these other people give them feedback, there is no power to do what have to be done.

Be kind to Your mappers because they are doing it for You and give them hope...

Tbh I would distance mentioning any link between UE4 and UE3's UDK because of how overhauled the whole system is now.

I was a subscriber from when UE4 was first announced publically until they went free and it's such a vast r/evolution for the engine that anyone who has yet to use it is in for a shock (and treat)
