    n00b mapping question

I'm more of a coder by trade, and am looking to try mapping with AO. But I have a question:

To make a simple room, do I subtract a brush like Normal UT mapping, or do I carve out a biiig room, then "add" blocks in the inside of it which make up my level (e.g. one brush for each wall, and so on)?

    Thanks

The first method you mentioned, using mostly subtractions, is the better choice. That way it's much easier to optimize your level using zones.

But *specifically for Alien Swarm mapping*, there'd be a face for the ceiling which you are not meant to put into Alien Swarm maps, thus why I asked about the second choice.

Yea. You carve rooms and hallways like in normal UT, then you substract the roof out from the orbit.

It's the only way to be sure.
Ah, to be a hero. Keeping such company...
