    What's Your Favorite Video Game?

    Hey everybody,

I recently caught a few ads on Spike TV for their upcoming Video Game Awards (it airs Dec. 14th but I'm not sure what time, check out their website if you want) and thought to start this thread to see who everyone thinks should win the award for game of the year. Maybe we could tally up the replies here and then compare them to which game actually wins that night? It might be cool too to send these results to Spike TV after we're done, especially if our favorites aren't on their list. So I'm going to dig around and try to find a way to contact them too.

Here's this year's choices from Spike's website (if you don't agree, just put down your favorite):

    Burnout 3: Takedown (Electronic Arts)
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Rockstar Games)
    Half-Life 2 (Vivendi Universal Games)
    Halo 2 (Microsoft Game Studios)
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Konami)

Also, what's your all-time favorite? (I'm predicting Super Mario Brothers and CS will top the list here.)

Thanks everyone and I'll keep you posted on who wins in case you won't catch it.

    Jason

GTA: San andreas and Half-Life 2 are tied for first place IMO.

As for all time favorite games... Hmm, I'd have to go for:

    1. Half-Life
    2. Diablo 2 (LoD)
    3. StarCraft (Broodwar)
    4. Diablo
    5. Command and Conquer

    Doubtful.

Of those listed, Half-life 2 is my choice. It's the only one I've played of those, but nevertheless.

    All-time favourites: I'd say Nethack.

CS: S is fun, but when the insults and hack accusations start flying, I'm one of the first people to leave the server.

CS(: S) is the perfect mix of strategy and deathmatch.

    My classic list:
    Half-Life
    Thief: Dark Project
    UFO: Enemy unknown

    My current list:
    Half-Life 2
GTA San Andreas (fuck PlayStation tho)
    ...

I don't play much games tho, still haven't finished Half-Life 2 or Doom 3. Too much else to do on the Internet.

    -Burnout 3 is pretty leet.
-The Bard's Tale (PS2\XBOX) is pretty funny.
    -Thievery is pretty sneaky.
    -Natural Selection is pretty hectic.
-Navy Seals - Covert Operations is pretty realistic. (and also apparently doesn't have a website)
-Warlords Battlecry 3 is pretty strategic.
    -Alien Swarm is pretty tactical.

I thought we were talking about video games here, as in console old-school lovliness.

My absolute favorite old-school console game is : Dungeons & Dragons for the Intelevision system. Nothing got me so worked up as walking around an unexplored, pixelated dungeon, hearing the Dragon kings breathing his deep and simple sine wave based breathes.

That said, I think I'll be playing Theif TDP until I'm too arthretic to use a keyboard anymore. Of course, we'll have holodecks by then so I'll just get my body rebuilt out of titanium/plasteel and rent some time every month.

Perhaps, but the very person who created the thread said Half-Life 2, which is for PC only at this time, if I am not mistaken.

I was just giving everything some needed historical perspective. You know (and that's a general you) that Spike TV will not give credit to anything that isn't sexist, violent or made longer than 2 years past.

In other words, the video game awards are a farse!

Yeah, Tomb Raider is among my favorites. Tomb Raider I is one of those groundbreaking games the way Doom I and Mario64 are.

"Diving" off a high ledge always made such a sweet sound upon impact, but you missed out on the scream then

I only have a top 3 for this years games:
Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines(despite the bugs it's my GOTY)
    Thief 3
Hitman: Contracts(while I haven't finished it yet, it's been pretty good so far)

    Two major disappointments are:
Half Life 2(I wasn't expecting much and I got less than that)
    Doom 3(same as above)
    Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, n. See also Irony.

Ditto. Exactly the same, minus HL2 which I haven't got yet.

    Plus :

    Jagged Alliance 2

Unreal Tournament (if only for the 3 years Thievery play, best value ever.. 35 for the game originally, 4 years play, I play 5 times a week, so 52 x 5 = 260 ~ 260 x 4 years = 1040 Days of fun, lets say I play for 4 hours each of these days on average, 1040 x 4 = 4160 hours of fun.

(35 / 4160 Hours) * 100(to convert into pennys) = 0.8413461... pennies per hour of FUN. BEST VALUE EVAR)

If you try playing it today it's extremely slow and cumbersome to control, but back then it was the best thing ever. Seeing that T-Rex for the first time was awesome. Too bad Core just decided to do the lazy cash-in thing and just release endless sequels without improving the gameplay.

You know, considering the bad reviews it got, it was actually quite good. Definately better than Hitman 2, probably better than the first.

Okay I just have to say, HALF LIFE 2 SUCKED.
GTA: San Andreas was boring. It was the same as the previous GTA titles. *yawn*
Halo 2: fun, but can become a bit redundant at some points.I think everyone needs to rethink their lists...seriously, they over hyped these games. I'd have to say that Need For Speed: Underground (and Underground 2) dominate the racing scene. RtCW would be my pick for this year's action game. Gladius was a decent rpg, but LOTR: The Third Age was better. Red Dead Revolver by Rockstar Games gets mad props for creativity and executing an excellent idea. That's my 2004 picks.

    as for all of time:
    RPG: The Fallout Series
Action/FPS/TPS: Socom II: US Navy SEALs
Racing: Need For Speed: Underground 2
    Strategy: Warcraft Series
New and Innovative: Red Dead Revolver
    Puzzle/Misc: Myst Series

bottom line, I like games that are new and don't join the band wagon of the same crap over and over.

I think that speaks for itself...
The Underground games were a step backwards as far as the Need For Speed series goes. Porsche Unleashed is where it's at.

And as far as hype goes, I really don't care. I like Half-Life 2 because it brings a lot of new stuff to the table. Do you have anything constructive to say about why you don't like HL2, or is it just because it's popular?
It's not my fault everything you like is terrible.
