    Game cd error

This problem is not serious. It is happening, but should still be laughed at.
I have a copy of revolt, and old arcade racing sim from acclaim, released 1999. A few hours ago I attempted to install this under windows XP. The installation went fine, up till the point when I selected "Play Revolt" and hit finsh. The program exited with a CD not found error. I tried running it again with the same result. I checked with windows explorer, which identified the cd but gave me an idea. I changed the drive the cd was in and ran the program again. It returned a new error. Success! not quite, it wanted me to put the game cd in the other drive, from where it had just come. I swapped the cd again and got the same error. Pointed to the other drive. After a few more rounds of this I switched operating systems and came here.

Tommorow afternoon I will burn a copy of the cd and put one in both drives, which should confuse it enough to run the program, but until then I am open to suggestions (Or even just derogatory laughter at the nature of the problem)

Maybe if you uninstall, and then reinstall with the CD in the other drive it will work.

I remember that this game has a problem with XP. It works for some people with SP1 installed, but with SP2 installed it won't work at all.

You can try a no-cd crack to see if it will work after bypassing the cd-checks(this never comes up on the "official" or "cover-our-asses" forums).

Some old games have the picky habit of only searching the 1st cd drive.
If you have more than one you might want to check if the cd is on the "2nd" drive.

You could try using Daemon Tools to mount an image of the CD on a virtual drive... but personally I'd just crack the bastard. It's entirely probable you'll get more errors after that, though... what with SP2 being the delightful bundle of joy it is.

I have not got either service pack for windows XP. Do not concern yourself, it is not allowed near the dangerous world of the internet.

I got the no-cd crack from game copy world, but I could not burn a copy of it. I will be back in a few hours to tell you if it works, and thanks for all your help.

The copy cd was an attempt to defeat it by having a game cd in both drives. Was not needed however, the crack I got worked.
