    My Weekend Project.

This weekend I went out to the garage, and selected one of the dry branches I'd picked out that I wanted to use for making staves.

I stripped the back, hardened it with a metal steak, and then put this design on it.

I did the design using a candle. The wood isn't actually burned, you just put the stick close enough to the candle that it put a layer of soot on it. Then I sprayed it with clear laquer so it wouldn't rub off.

Just thought I'd share Its pretty easy to do, and fun, if you care to give it a try.

Could you attach a bowstring to the staff and it'd be a bow upgrade?

I think i have pictures of a staff I made once, using Theif III glyphs and a real woodburner. However, my mom broke it because she's just like that. Yours look a lot better anyway.

Oh, and salsa, i couldn't find hte picture, but i'd post if if i did.

Looks good, but using a candle makes it hard to do more accurate drawings. Depending on what the sun is like where you are, try with a good magnifing glass.
    So, how big is it?

    Its about 6.5-7 ft long.

I don't think a magnifying glass would work...seeing as how it produces no soot.

No reason why that wouldn't work...but I still think the candle is waaaaay cooler.

Not canonical, and no wierd glyphs, but here's a few shots of one of the spears that I've stripped the bark for:

Not sure why we've made them either, come to think of it. Something about bear country. <img>

The magnifing glass is a common australian bush trick. Get a good one, and you can burn the wood in a thin line, with no actual danger. Good for making "Aboriginal" items.

No shit, Dec? I'll have to give that a try!

Cool pics, SM. I currently don't have any wood straight enough to make an actual spear. These are more quarterstaff/walking stick material.

Is that where you live? Nice area...
