    Angry 8800GTS problem

Hi .I recently upgraded my pc and bought a 8800GTS. I can play UT2004 normally, but when i load AlienSwarm, i am having the following problem:
At some points of the map the game goes very very slow fps are red (10-15) and it is unplayable . So i went to the setting and reduced everything, but still i had the same problem. It was solved when i changed the "render device" to software, but the quality was awful. When testing with rmode i saw that it was caused only on rmode 5 and 7, so i opened Ued, deleted all the spotlights and the problem was solved.
I have the latest drivers and it happens only in AlienSwarm. Any suggestions, maybe something in the .ini file?
    Thanks

I heard that DX10 cards wouldn't run some older games :/.

Probably a driver issue, wait for new drivers, or if your feeling really motivated go report the bug!

if everything else fails you could try to install the drivers from http://www.omegadrivers.net/. they are based on the original drivers, but perhaps it will work! _

No, omega driver is not working .Is there a way to disable spotlights or somthink like that? From the .ini file for example. I have try 4 difrents drivers but none of them fixed the problem . I have try disable dynamic lighting but didn't work either .

I have the exact same problem with my 8800GTS. Driver is 97.92. Only played the tutorial so far, but the slowdown near the end was very pronounced.

    Hi and welcome.
We tried to solve that problem with kjk, but it was the world detail, that caused it. (after you turn it off restart the map). In any case make sure to have a good PSU some hardware monitor app for the gpu temperature and install other drivers.
BTW lol i imagine you having downloaded the game, wanting so badly to try it, starting the tutorial and facing the 10 fps situation from the very first mission

So what exactly should the setting be at, and what is lost in terms of detail? Thanks for your help.

Set it to low. But still it could be another problem. So the best is to change every setting from highest to lowest, restart each time the map and see if it is fixed.
About the loss in details i reallly don't know it's your call. As long as you can see dynamic lighting you are ok.

Ah, from your previous post, I understood, that the problematic setting had been pinpointed. Hopefully the bug will be identified.

I recently bought an 8800 GTS, and encountered the same problem. Some googling revealed that this is a well known problem with the UT2004 engine and the Geforce 8X00 series, and it's somehow related to the dynamic lighting.

The solution for me was to disable Hardware T&L, which incurs a hefty penalty to the FPS count, but with a new computer this should not be a problem. You need to modify AlienSwarm.ini, specifically two occurrences of UseHardwareTL=True to UseHardwareTL=False

Some of the following could help if you don't think the above is a good idea, but I haven't personally tested these:
    • Enable vsync.
    • Set AA to x8, and increase other settings to try to keep FPS below 200.
    • Disable dynamic lighting (not really an option with this mod).
    • Someone reported that using the driver v97.94, and Tweak Regcleaner to remove earlier drivers somehow fixed the problem. Different driver versions might be worth a shot, just remember to completely remove older drivers.
