Thievery2 - Come one, come all.

The Thievery 2 team would like to welcome you to this once in a lifetime opportunity of swelling their ranks with your talents.

You might think that you can't provide anything towards the team, you might think something along the lines of "I can only map in Thievery Unreal Editor" or "I've never mapped before, what good would I do" or even "I have no free time on my hands".

Well, here's where we tell you how wrong you could be:

Firstly to give her credit Grimmy has been mapping for the team for a few months now, having never touched any form of mapping she has done sterling work following our part 2-4 tutorials:
http://www.moddb.com/games/thievery/tutorials
and has found that once you get going the mapping process is mostly a doddle.

Secondly, as you can see from those tutorials our current situation is in getting all the maps ported in a Thievery UEd method, so old mappers will feel right at home.

Thirdly, there's no deadlines, no set times for completion of things - flexi-time, 5 minutes here and there to a map is better than nothing - fit mapping, audio, you name it round your schedules.

So what positions need to be filled:

1) Lead programmer - currently our code is under scrutiny by MasterThief3, but his time is precious and a more dedicated coder would certainly help.

2) Mappers.

Reply to this thread now if you're at all interested - make 2013 the year of the Thievery 2 Alpha release !

3) Modellers.

At some point the older ThieveryUT models will need to be updated and replaced, if you feel this is for you then hop aboard. Currently McFarrell is doing great work with the characters and animations.

4) Foley and Musicians.

The sounds are very low quality, at some point these also will need updating.

5) Adobe Flash (Scaleform) Creators.

All new menus need implementing, these must be made in Flash (the UDK now uses Scaleform) currently the HUD is using the old Canvas UI renderer but this also would benefit from becoming flash based.

Our priority members that we need to release an alpha this year are the Scaleform creators, Coder(s) and mappers - these will guarantee a release this year of a ThieveryUT like playable game in alpha~beta state.

A list of current team members/Contributors:

Industrialism (Leader/Main PM Contact).
McFarrell.
Vigilant (Secondary PM Contact).
MasterThief3.
MontyPython.
Appollonius.
Nottis.
[E.D.G]Chief (Retired/No PM Contact).

You can use all the sound effects I made and I'll probably create more when needed.

You will probably convince me of looking at the code sooner or later, but I'm learning php/jquery these days and not really into coding UT stuff.

Also, a note to everyone: this project is not done from scratch, it is already possible to load many of the old TuT maps in thievery 2.

Rememeber that line everyone, you get to slack off while mapping and blame the delay on the goblins Also....

Now with Bow Upgrade, and 3000 extra thief taunts, voiced by none other than Garret's voice actor from the original Thief series. Enjoy it, because that's where 99% of the budget went. The rest went on employing a full time tea boy.

Well, I'm already vaguely familiar with the NB code from studying it for another UDK project I am involved, so I could lend my support to this part time as well.

Well, I guess I'd better move on with my mapping first steps to UDK then?
Is it more complicated? What do I need except UDK?

Odd, I cannot find a single line about which engine this will use.
But since it's UDK I am assuming it's the latest unreal (UT3 right?).

Anyway... Antero90 offers his map in the making for TuT2. I take the responsability of doing most of it and then allowing a capable member to change/cut whatever he/she feels necessary (that means hands off Chief!).
A TuT 1.6 release continues to be my target.

I can also do some text work (and my map has tons of it) if you need it. While not a native english speaker I have 5 years of english language and I think I am ok at doing random texting.

So far i have free time, and i could try to make some musics, also to try some sound editing. I have a quality hand recorder, maybe i could record some of the sounds here and there Spring is there and summer is coming, i guess it will be a good time for some night crickets and morning birds recs. (thinks of my favorite th-grange garden bird song)

yes and no. UDK is like a standalone editor that is updated every now and then, was released after UT3, think of it as a UT3 editor that has had regular updates you dont need UT3 to run the UDK

When all the data corrupts on the FTP then it does tend to become unusable - also you should see a doctor about that cough

So... the conversion tutorials point out that UDK version is from November, is this still the case?

Given that Chief only replied to my observation about the tutorials I am assuming my offer was ignored or denied. Maybe I should have kept the hands off part secret.
But I was serious about wanting to help in mapping and writting, both offers will stand.

Anyway, looking at a small section of the udk files it seems they changed a lot of the basic stuff, which essentially means that now when I am starting to get confortable with UED I will have to unlearn all of that and start anew. Best thing tho is that it seems that they got rid of the whole carving stuff that is literally giving me nightmares on how on earth will I carve out the exterior sections of my map.

carving stuff was the easy part it isn't completely different from ut99 editor, but there are indeed new things you have to learn. kismet, terrain, volumes etc but you can still make maps by carving (subtractive mapping) which strangely i prefer shouldn't take too long tho to switch to it, it isn't like learning everything from scratch again altho i admit you will prob find it annoying for awhile when certain things are slightly different.

Whenever a posts' sentence ends with the line:

One tends to skip the post

Seriously though I misread the post due to my reading it at 1am or so

I've sent you a PM...

For anyone having trouble signing up, I have relaxed one of the server settings which may have been causing valid emails to be taken as invalid. Remember new devs always have to sign up to the site and wait for admin approval from Indus or Grim.

Additionally any attempts to register when not accepted to the team, or trying to login any old how (as has been happening on the site) just gets the persons IP banned so I'd suggest not trying it.

Seems like alot of people took it as an invitation to try

Thankfully we have prune users to wipe 'em out.
