Alien Swarm 1.2: The Ortega Campaign released

Greetings everyone,

It's been a long and intensive week of testing and working on the mod.
But we finally got it right and working properly.

Mirrors:
Make sure you have patch 3270 or higher installed.
3270 Windows patch
3270 Linux patch

New Features:
  • The Ortega Campaign by DusKer, featuring 6 new missions.
  • New single missions: Aspirant and SynTek Bio Labs.
  • New extra equipment: NV Goggles, Incendiary Grenades, Stun Grenades and Sarge's favourite.
  • Imported new medic/reload/ammo lines for Wildcat.

Bug fixes/tweaks:
  • Added key binds for dropping ammo from the ammo bag.
  • A kicked player will no longer be able to rejoin during the same round.
  • Player names are forced to be unique.
  • Fixed a button exploit (the elevator on Ao-Rescue).
  • Fixed various map exploits on Ao-Research.
  • Fixed the shotgun infinite ammo bug.
  • Fixed miscellaneous crashes.
  • Stun grenades (hand and P-Rifle) affect marines for a shorter durataion.
  • Protected some debug functions that could disrupt play.
  • Fixed the 95/96 ammo bug with the rifles which would cause unnecessary reload at the start of the game sometimes.
  • Fixed the sentry gun turning bug on dedicated servers.
  • Microphone icon appears on the HUD over a marine who is speaking over voice chat.
  • Players can't start a vote twice quickly in succession (to prevent a kick vote against them).

Quick how-to
  1. Install Unreal Tournament 2004.
  2. Patch to version 3270. (Linux | Windows)
  3. Start UT, load up an instant action map. (DM-Albatros or something.)
  4. Quit UT2004 and unzip the 1.2 file in the ut2004 dir (And confirm overwrite on each file if you're migrating from 1.1). So you end up with a dir /ut2004/AlienSwarm/
  5. Run Alien Swarm.
  6. Die.

arg but im not at a computer that I can install it on atm :S can ya at least tell me if the new grenades are Hand throwable or just Gun grenades . . .

They're hand grenades.

I've played the game for about 30 minutes now and I can't figure out what the hell ... "sarge's favorite" does ... ? It seems completely pointless and the description ... wtf ... ?

Oh, and already found a bug: In the ortega campaign during single player, a second player is listed (named "Player") in the lobby. Or was there a reason for this?

good news and bad news
good news is , i've dled the new patch
bad news is, somehow it just dislike me (maybe i rambo too much but) i overwrite the older files with the new ones in the zip file, and when i run it theres no new camp, i also don't see the equiptments, when i try to run single map (the new camp) it crashes and gives me this message

I just installed ut2k4 then 1.2 and it worked fine .. I didn't have to run UT2k4 or 1.1 before installign 1.2

Well, i've noticed some issues with AS generating nearly empty ini files and a fix for this is to run and play an ut2004 map. (But merely starting ut2004 and exiting it might work too.)
Empty ini files for AS means screwy controls. And that's not nice.

Screw it...

New campaign takes me up to the selection screen, but there's no dot to move to. Starting new maps in single mission mode crashes the game. No new equippment.

First impressions: we died, died and died... on normal.
We made it to what i think was the end of the second mission before we tried a singlemap and then took a break.
So far everything is looking absolutely gorgeous and plays in a excitingly challenging way. I love you guys!

OK, back to the game in a bit.

Alright, manually deleted every file and folder starting with "Ao..." that I could find and freshly unzipped 1.2 over it, now everything seems to work as intended.

just played the new campaign on mp, I think we got to the map after the optional one, where you have to open alot of doors
very nice campaign indeed

well *uck knows whats going on with this, but I can play 1.2 fine single player, but as soon as I try to play online it tries to download a bunch of files (aoSoldierspeach... which I have).

as for the 'quick how-to' does this infer we have to uninstall UT2k4 then REinstall, then reinstall 1.1 blah blah blah?

sheesh, any chance you could just release a working umod? :s

I guess the simplest solution is to delete the AlienSwarm folder from your UT2004 directory and unzip a fresh copy of 1.2 into UT2004 ... ?

did that, any idea what folder aosoldierspeach.uax is supposed to be in? atm mines in /ut2k4/alienswarm/sounds/

just put it there, same thing. for some reason it keeps wanting to redownload the damn files everytime i try to connect to a server. i suppose in the times it's taken me to uninstall/reinstall/play an instant match/install/move files round I could have just sat and had another beer and waited for it to download. oh well.
