looks good. Hmm it looks a bit like Dark mod, i played alpha, so i know what i talking about.
Anyone know who this guy is, and how he got hold of our alpha? We had someone pull an extremely early, out of date, version of our soon to be released demo level from the ftp by taking our public http address and using some guesswork to get the file. I"m just wondering if this is someone I already know about, or if it's yet another person who was given the file from the person who stole it.

Did he give it to anyone on here?

I haven't heard anything about it, NH. And as much as this community talks, probably somebody would have spoken up by now and claimed something along the lines of "OMGZ TEH DARK MOD CAME OUT BEFORE NIGHTBLADE WTF!"

And right they should to

The plans for female thieves still implemented? In tight leathers? (First time I have ever used that joker smiley )

@TheHorizon
He is probably lying. He wouldn't have the wits to get your file. He is probably posting it so everybody asks him what its like, and he can be the center of attention.

He also goes by the name of Alex, if that is any help.

If there is some aspect you dislike or think needs improvement go ahead and mention it.. but just simply calling it crappy wont help me make it better .

Hue slider like hl1! What thief wouldn't want to look dashing in Midnight Blue, Dark Scarlet, or even Soylent Green.

Although Baz is clearly taking the piss here wouldn't it be sweet as a cherry to have spraypaints/ decals like HL1!

You could have your guilds motto or the typical ugly thief face or something.

Hmm but to keep it in tone with the victorian theme it shouldnt be a spray paint. There would be a brush item in the inventory youd have to use in front of a wall. It would lock the player into a painting animation for about 10 minutes or so, depending on the complexity of the logo.

Note to self...

Don't bother posting anything unless the object is complete. Clearly the community has no interest assisting in the early development stages of it.

Nice gun though

I'm serious (although not as outlandish as pink and cyan Dr. Kleiners). Being able to distinguish players based on their colour as well as the model they use could be nice.

Sad that the Thief/Thievery community has always been so overly critical of mods and things. A very pedantic group (ad nauseum) seems attracted to this game genre instead of just being happy that someone is actually moving forward. Models can always be replaced later. It is important to first have a working prototype to move forward, otherwise you could be redrawing the same model 10 times over and you still wouldn't please everybody because each person has their own idea of what "their" thief should look like and they all suck.

F*ck em all! Do what you like and the rest will fall in line. If at some point when we are running a working game we all can vote on a new thief idea.. then so be it. Otherwise, just go with what you got.

Thank you illuminus and immortius for your efforts on ThieveryUT3 and for keeping us updated with these Journal entries.

IMO, every idea is valid until its been laughed at and stamped on by a developer. Changing the colours I don't think is that important, but I sense plugging my decals idea again wont go down very well... I'll put that on a backburner for now

Player colour selection I can certainly appreciate, and can't think of any reason not to implement it, with some sensible restrictions of course. Fairly low priority though.

Decals? Technically it isn't possible to have clients send textures to the server, so you wouldn't be able to make a decal for your guild and then connect to a server and start using it. You would be limited to what decals the server had. Other than that it is technically possible.

Colour selection could be a strip on the model, like an arm-band or a stripe on the hood/hat/blackjack.

I think 'my' decals idea has been thoroughly squelched. I wouldn't want to be joining a server and start downloading 'FIXXINj00F4C3.gif' along with a bunch of other decal textures before I actually get in!

I don't know what the drama was about the models /confusion - I think they're sweet as nuts.

Well you could do the spraypaint thing like ChaosUT2 did... and then create spraypaint packages that the server could host (in compressed form) and it shouldn't be that major..

Why not add different default changeable headgear with different colors, border colors, and glyph logo's?
The border colors and the Glyph logo's are so that a guild/clan wont whine and flame when they see a random player using theyre colors wile they dont intend to.

Love the model work, Illuminus!

In regards to the thief model though, I'm not on board with using guild colors and so forth. I like the idea that thieves can customize their appearance, but I don't like the idea of color-coding to be unique or representing a guild. A thief's gear should vary, one may wear a full mask, hat or prefer to work without gloves, but I don't think any thief in their right mind would work with a green striped hat. The clothes should conceal the identity.

If we go with the colorizing route, we should also go with a guard crime unit, specializing in identifying thieves and their guilds by the colors they wear. And perhaps thieves can throw up gang signs as they run away...

I made a post about colour schemes a few days ago - I'm just going to copy and paste it:

If there are colour schemes, they should be congruent with the mood of the game. For example if there were a choice of different coloured cloaks, they should all have a dark, dusky colour tone. For example, dark yellow or dark green only, rather than bright green or bright yellow.

colour schemes for different guilds etc imo is a bad idea, especually for thieves.

However, the guards could have different colours, ie on thievery there were red guards, blue guards, guards with no colors just bare armour etc...
