When im trying to go in the internet section in alien swarm or unreal tournament 2004 it says that the connection to the ut2004 master server has timed out.

Exactly what it says on the tin. The Master Server is what sends you the list of all game servers. Sometimes someone over at Epic/Atari spills their coffee on it.
To avoid this problem in the future, add all servers you're likely to play on to your Favorites list. Your favorite servers bypass the Master Server.
Or even better, add the servers to All-Seeing Eye and just use that. -
