The Challenge

So I was messing around with one of my mutators, and I somehow ended up with a first-person-widescreen-ghostcam. While flying around, I realized just how utterly different some of the locations look.
So I'm turning it into a game of sorts. I post a first-person screenshot, you tell me what map, and describe where if you can manage it. Use spoiler tags, so it doesn't ruin it for everyone after you.

We'll start off easy:

#1 Rescue, just after the first few corridors?
#2 ReactorCore, egg room?

Will this mutator be embedded in your pack? Looks cool.

I don't think it had anything to do with the mutator; it seems to me to be an issue with the way opening maps is handeled when the main menu screen is up.

If you would like to have a look around yourself, its pretty easy. Start a game as you normally would, then hit escape and choose exit to menu. Once you're back at the main menu, drop the console and type 'open mapname' where mapname is the name of the map you want... This should load the map behind the main menu buttons. Just hit escape and the menu will disappear for you.

#1 is easy. For #2, to be more exact the reactor valves are mid-right of the screen, but occluded by those big pipes. Those two eggs are just south of the valves.

I've been looking around a bit in the UED 3D view and it's nice to see how much brilliant detail there is in the game. Even though it adds to the whole feel and atmosphere, it's easy to not take notice of that while playing. It's an awesome piece of art this game.

Thanks for the tip Big D, I'll have to try it out sometime.

Here we go.. Guesses from the top of my head, I'll talk 'em through...
1. Research. Theres the infamous "Danger LASER" sign.
2. There is *so* many rooms that look like that. Uh... Rescue?
3. Are those bunks? Barracks?
4. Ick. Brighten the shot... Based on me brightening it in photoshop: I'd say Uplink. The dish is behind the camera.
5. I'd guess thats the end of Barracks, running towards the exit zone, based on the terrain
6. Which level had a missile?? Research and Salvage both want me to pick them...


In any case, I'm gunna have to get some new shots. DQ is going to burn through the ones I have...

#2 should be Salvage...the room with a medkit and "glass" door...or the room with a toggle console saying the place was swarmed with aliens or so ^^;;;
#3 I think is in Research...
#5 should be Salvage...b/c of the barrel...


Gee... ... can we have the mutator for brightness ?

#3 is from Ao-Paracelsus, the room with the med satchel in the cupboard
#2 I'm pretty sure is a custom map, maybe one of the rooms in Ao-Cleanup
#4 looks a lot like Ao-Retreat to me, the bit where the dropship crashes
#5 could be Barracks... but I think it looks more like the mine section of Ao-Cleanup
#6 has me confused

- Big_D got #1 right, but rest are wrong.
- tank hunter missed all
- Carth got #3 and #5 right (still need a room for that). Answers unaccaptable for #2, #4 and #6.
- Silent Hunter is right about #4. You forgot the spoiler tag, but what the heck.

This is fun!

Since #2 and #6 are a bit tough (yea, so many rooms like #2, I realize now), I'll give you a hint. They're not custom maps.

#3 Research, the bit after the sentry hack computer. The bit where the sentry pops up is in the far distance, to the left of the yellow crate on the right
#7 Salvage, section before the end

The rest I'll think about. #4 has me completely confused. The only SynUp machine I know of in the official maps is the Reseach one, and it doesn't look like that.

#6 The table tells me its the laser room hack in Research
#7 Salvage last area facing north near rifle ammo

I haven't played in more than a month and have uninstalled UT2004, so I may be wrong.

#3 Observation, In a seemingly unlimited spawn in the east side open space, outside the "window" of the comp room on the east side...

*edit* I think #5 is Barrack, below the bridge before the bright room, almost at the end of the map...

Actually both Carth and I are correct if you read our descriptions of the room, we both used the wrong name for the map.

Its rescue not research doh, and two of us typing wrong. The shortcut pipes are the give away

Yes, but the correct level name is kinda critical; anyone can describe the room, its in the screenshot

#4 Ortega Engineering...where you waiting for ppl to go through the stupid waiting/lagging big door and open the "other" door --;;;
#5 Ortega Airdock thing (name?) (The map you need to shut down the power and open the air system or something), near the one that you need to jump from a sloped metal plate to a platform to a panel you need to "use" and then you run away
#6 I am not there yet =P Believe to be in Ortega, the one have the threat level "insane"
#7 Forgot the name of the map...Ortega, when you get to a point you have two "last" map to go (one insane one level 3), the one with threat level 3...should be near the starting position --;;;
#8 Have no idea...cuz I mostly using WildCat...and I am not covering Crash =P
