The problem with 8 slots is that people try to join and kick other players. Then you have to ask them to leave / kick the player. It's very annoying.
Also if you do have extra players in a server, there is a chance of them deciding who goes to which server. When the server is full most people just wait in the server browser for a spot to open. (Guilty)
Even if you only connect when it is 7/8 there is still a chance you are going to kick someone who loads slow.Kept an xmas avatar for 3 year(s).Comment

Looks like we have tested both ways and non of em worked.
Solution: Both servers have been shut down for eternity.

The rift server is set to 4/4 and only adds slots if there are 5 resslotters, is this intentional? or should it be 4+1 slot for every resslotter up to 4? When it gets to 6 ressloters it locks.
Wouldnt it be better if it was 4/4 and opens up a(2-4) slot each time a ressloter joins?

To put an end to this never ending discussion: This two servers, even though they are free for all to join, are no official servers from the developers and people dont have to pay for it, so no one can demand anything.
They are Rob's and my personal hobby. We have absolutely no dedication to anybody!
How we configure them is our own thing. If I set one of em to 2 players or password them or turn on the "apes-fly-of-my-ass-mutator" on, then that's how it is.
We always have one of the two servers free for all as a regular 8 player game. So it's ensured a "normal" game is possible for anybody. The other server, mainly the rift server, is my personal playground, which was the reason why I have set it up on the first place.
That all the other great servers like THN or NoDatas are gone is not our responsibility.
Complaining or even demanding stuff is pointless. You can ask for things by sending us a pm or email, but that's all.
This is my final statement to this topic. If anybody is unhappy in any way with any setting, he is totaly free to set up his own server.
