Unfortunately I didn't realise that the old unreal engine only accepts single meshes, so I had to go back to an earlier model (luckily I save at every stage, before I make changes) and attach all the seperate bits (i.e. eyes), so now it's using only 1 skin for the whole mesh. I think I'm going to leave this as it is, whether that's good or bad, partly because I'm fed up of working on it, and that given my current skill level it's probably the best I can manage. Turned out better than I thought considering that apart from following some tutorials, the only things I've made in max are some arches for a map I was working on. Fortunately 3DS Max is noob friendly. ![]() edit: so yeah, this is my submission.

Could you animate a sheath over one eye? Like a lens covering (part of a sphere maybe) so it looked like it blinks in the dark occasionally?

Nice claymore, I think the eyebrows had to go. The only thing that needs changed now, imo, is the gear shape around the green eye. I think it should be there, but maybe shaped differently, like an oval or maybe a some kind of concave or pentagonic shape. Maybe even make it so its not simetrical. I just think the circular shape makes it look too innocent. Cheerz

I kinda like the yellow also, will the whister be the same color?
I like yellow because it looks like it is made or gold or something. It also stands out if you are a thief sneaking around. If color does change i think a metal color would be nice, maybe a hard metal color, some fade here and there, a little gloss and shine here and there

I don't see why a new color is needed, I kind of like the yellow/gold skin.
It would be cool to see some new suggestions on colors tho, no doubt. Nice work on the models so far!

Clay could you try making it look more primitive like the original model - e.g. less detailing of human features and instead leave it with harder angles.

The rivets really make it look allot more polished imho. If you can it would look really cool to have them along every line,although if they stretch its a little harder todo
. Might also want to try leaving the 2nd eye just dark colored instead of red.Also doesn't the current TUT have 2 whistler models? The older one for mounted stationary ones and the newer version for deployable? p.s. Although my photochop skills where not amazing, I would gladely help tweak the skin and send it back to you in bmp format or somthing to help test and stuff. Just PM me

@Claymore : Imho the Crux of your model is the mouth, the other stuff is nice. Cant give any solid suggestions tho. Mebbe removing it/something Vader-esque/just a slit/covering it with plating/a round loudspeaker which makes the woo-woo alert thingie or something, hell dunno

I've changed the mouth because it always botherd me for some reason. I've tried to make it bit more machine-like by making a more angular mouth and putting a grill texture over it. Does this look better or worse?
Firetiger: I've changed the nose a bit so it isn't as pointy as it was before.

Claymore if you have time could you try making the shape more of a rectangular face (not a rectangle but more like the old watcher) when looking from the frontal view - I think it would make it look more hard edged.

You mean like this? I'm not sure how to do it because max naturally just smooths out the model. This is just changing the view, so it doesn't show it smoothed out. *talking to convict*
Anyways, I'm interested to know, anyone else working on a Watcher model? apart from cythe and alpha

It's an absolutely amazing model, and Thievery could almost use it as a standard to revamp the rest of the mod. a highly-polished, no longer UT99-old-skool bad graphics is what yeh've got there. Can't wait for it too be implemented (hinthint)
BTW, you're using 3DstudioMAx, right? You know whre i can get a cheap copy of it? Until then i'm stuck using Autodesk Revit and exporting to all kinds of odd filetypes.

Thanks, rad. I wouldn't call it that amazing, but your comments are much appreciated.
As for 3ds max, I'm using version 5, which still has most of the features of the newer versions (up to 7 now). I think you can buy it for about $3K now, though I've heard that some bad people download it off p2p, but obviously no one here would do that.

You can get a 2 year student license for 100$, which is a somewhat cheaper solution if you happen to be studying something.

My Architectural design prof. gave me his old copy of Revit (6.1) And he's got an old 3DS version too (5.0)
Now i jsut have to outbid the rest of the school district... thanks for the idea, MB

Yeah, I got a 1 year liscense of Max 7 for about $100, student discount. They list some retailers on their website.
