  • Alien Swarm Servers

I saw the trailer, it said 8 marines. This game is a co-op game, that means it's guards vs. bugs, but the bugs are ai, so it's marines (humans vs. ai bugs) I might be wrong. So that means a max of 8 players per server, granted you could have specatators, but 8 humans playing at a time. Crackaz server can hold 12 players in Thievery on their t1 connection (correct me if I'm wrong again). There is no other dedicated server out there in the TUT community right now. My Thiefmatch server can hold 6, but that's TUT. I don't know how it will run a ut2k4 server, I don't even own that game till tomorrow. So where are we gonna get our Alien Swarm servers from? I/O hosted a Thievery server untill we had a few other dedicated servers around. Is this gonna happen again, or are we gonna have to unite and all have an Alien Swarm server the day of it's release?

Hopefully, new players will bring new server hosts after release although, apart from the high system demands of ut2k4, it doesn't take a rediculous connection to host an 8-player server. Also, due to the way the game plays it's possible people will start up listen servers when they want to play. We'll have to see how popular it is first

As for the system specs, my slow CPU can't even run ut2k4 properly. However, AS runs like a dream in absolute maximum detail so there's nothing to panic about there.

Mog's server should be up when we release. I would also recommend games of 4-6 players. Any more than that and you tend to lose the team work in all the chaos.

Cool. I like small 4-6 people gatherings over large 10-16 people gatherings

128-256kbps upload will be enough for hosting a multiplayer session.

I still need to analyze the bandwidth usage from my server, but I'd say 256kbps upstream is the minimum for a decent 4 player server.

its sad that my computer is too weak to act as a server. cause my 10mBit connection should prove usefull

well I must save some money to get a new motherboard and I think I will have 2.8Ghz P4, that should be enough
