I made it network compatible with 1.32, but one player said he couldn't connect to a game without it. So... not sure!

1.34 only needs to be applied to clients, servers can still run 1.32. The options mutator is not officially supported, it's a Space Engineers project.

is 1.34 on the servers, im still running 1.32 and its fine.

Is there any chance that you could make the userinterface for the options mutator function like the window that changes alien skin colour, eg with buttons, as in its current command state, it boggled my mind. - Its just me, but i found it hard to use.

It got postponed several times, until at some point 'cancelled' would be the better word.
MjrHurtz, maker of Phalanx, did 2 or 3 maps, that never got finished. Kil!er has done some work trying to finish those. We will see.

NoData has maybe 2 unfinished maps. L'Architecte made a nice swamp map. And there is a handful of other maps that are very promising, in different states of unfinishedness, but more than enough to build on.

Also, there is this or that small extra feature I know of, that could be used to spice up maps with tiny bits of new content.

But there is just no way of pulling off a campaign alone, unless you are REALLY fanatic, or have no life. It needs a joint effort.
And even if the manpower would be availiable, the mappers need to see the chance of their stuff being played afterwards, to be motivated to invest that work.

I think, to raise the player count again, it would need a package with a campaign, and some new features, a fix here and there, such things. A package of Telic-size.

I fear there ain't much chance to get such a package done without help from BCG, thus making the project 'official'. That's why I asked for an official statement, if possible.

I'm one hundred percent behind lighfoot: we need an Alien Swarm revival. I've been trying hard to introduce new players to the game, but alas, nowadays, it seems that either nobody owns UT2004 (or are too lazy to make it work) anymore or nobody has the time to give it a try.

And speaking of a new campaign, whatever happened to the Corvus campaign?

Just to explain that question a bit: I do know that there is problems with the idea of a major update (more on that later), but I feel like something has to be done to keep this game from dying. It is ok if there is only few players (always has been), but it is NOT ok if there is NO players, if they grew so few that chances of finding a game tend towards nil.

The game is good in single player, but if there is ONLY single, an important dimension of the game is lost.

We 'Space engineers' tried to do something like a 1.4 with our OptionsMutator. We achieved this and that small thing, but it didn't work out as I hoped, raising the count of players.

So I guess it needs more content, not only a more polished and feature-rich game. 'If you don't have a map, you don't have a game', they say, and if the old players are bored with the old maps, they stop playing at some point.

But maybe we did it wrong. More monsters would have been good, another gametype would have been good (thinking of that Invasion idea back then, or that 'no cloning unless you carry dead folks to safety' thing). And of course, maps.

I do see the problems with the Telic stuff being 'third party', but still, an integration of that fan-made stuff (including some bugfixing) could be a good thing, no? That 'community edition' idea back then attempted to do exactly that, preventing new players from needing to download and install a bazillion of things.

Another campaign could change things? I know, mapping is a lot of work, but maybe it could work like Upsilon, made mostly out of fixed community maps. We could do a mapping contest, I guess if there were a chance of 'going campaign' afterwards, people would dig out their half-finished maps. If there were maps to test, a lot of former players would return.

I am amazed how fast you reacted with that widescreen fix. Really, I wouldn't have hoped for that, with other stuff in the works, game being oldish by now and all that. So it must seem ungrateful if I come along asking for a major update now.
That's not how I mean it. It's just, I still believe in Alien Swarm, and hope for better times.

I would be willing to do my share of the work, if needed. Thinking of maybe a mapping tutorial, that explains stuff not covered by the BCG mapping docs.
A handful of other folks could contribute this and that, I am sure. Yet, the project could have much more of a chance if supervised by the proper fathers of AS.

Any thoughts on this? Any chance?

I humbly request that this thread be updated for the 1.34 patch, or a new sticky be made.

I recommend to update to 1.34. Folks still on 1.32 will not be able to play on 1.34 servers, due to version mismatch.

Just happened to me. I don't have a widescreen, so it seems I don't need the patch, but it just bugs me too much if there are ppl online and I can't play with them.

    ---

Maybe this is the right place to ask: Dalai (et al), is there any chance for a 1.4 (thinking of bugfixes, maybe even new features?), or is that completely out of the question?

    I would:
    1. Install UT2004
    2. Run the latest UT patch
    3. Install AS
    4. Install the latest update
    5. Install the campaigns
    6. Install maps some custom maps

That sounds much but takes only 5 minutes (once UT2k4 has been installed)
