  • Political/Hard Rock Music

    People, even if you're not into hard rock check out System Of A Down's new album "Steal This Album". In particular, check out "Boom", it's about the iraq war and has lots of facts like how 400,000 people die from starvation each day while billions are spent on bombs to kill people (The music video for it is really good too, with scenes of protests and all kinds of facts too). A lot of the other songs are full of other politcal/goverment/corporate badmouthing.

    Some harsh swearing in some of the songs though, but usually not much.
    The only constant is change.
    (And I wouldn't have it any other way.)

      Lateralus = Schism

      The Fragile = NIN

      :grin:

      I liked toxicity too but I'm saying this for all those political people out there or the people that like a bit of meaning in their music.

        The title "Steal This Album" is a ripoff of the title of the 60's counter-culture book "Steal This Book".

          Did you even listen to it?

          So what if it was (which I'm not to sure of)? Maybe that's what they wanted if you're right.

          Don't judge a book/album by it's cover.

              It was one of those anti-establishment, screw-the-man, undermine corporate based society things.

                it's true. "Steal This Book" was written by Abbie Hoffman. Only it was the 70s, not the 60s, LR. 8)

                It's "A Handbook Of Survival And Warfare For The Citizens Of The Woodstock Nation"

                I'd say that they were specifically referencing this book, as Abbie Hoffman was quite the famous counter-culture anti-establishment fellah, if not THE most famous.

                            hmm i duno. There's Hunter Thompson[politics, books, gonzo journalism], Tim Leary[acid. heh. you know.. "turn on, tune in, drop out" -- need i say more?], Alexander Shulgin[Ecstasy, MDMA, and many more psychedelic drugs], even Malcolm X (in my mind THE most significant. and even in the civil rights scene, he was part of the counterculture)... while "Steal This Book!" was indeed influential, i'm pretty sure you see a lot more references to X or Leary or Thompson than Hoffman.
                            and hey. the Situationalist International-- one of the leading counterculture institutions. of course, in accordance with sociological theory, of necessity culture must renew itself by absorbing the counterculture, so what we're talking about right now is basically a moot point. So Thwark, what dyou use to make sounds? hardware, software, libraries? (i'm a nosey bastard)
