  • Ghosting Single Player

(this is a long post, so read carefully )

Remember Ghosting and Lytha way in Thief I/II ?

well i made my own rules. there are two types, ghost and ultimate ghost :

    Ghost rulez :

    - genius AI
    - accomplish objectives (loot, evidence, ...)
    - do not use arrows, potions, only lockick
    - you can use arrows/potions if the item/loot cannot be taken by other ways.
    - do not kill/ko anyone
    - do not be heard or seen by guards or enemies (they can tell 'what's that noise'
and something like this, but if they start looking for you or they will light the flare,
    ghosting is over !)
    - do not take damage (this is debatable)
    - do not deal damage to humans
    - spiders, etc. can be killed or whatever, but only if necessary.
    - do not raise alarms, do not wake up guards ...

Ultimate ghost : like ghost +

    - take ALL loot/evidence, not only amount needed to finish level
    - lockpick used only as last option
    - return all to previous state. Close or lock doors if they were closed/locked,
return ALL keys, crates, do not take anything except loot and objectives (so no food)

OK now we have rulez. You say it is imposible ? oh no

Well i already did new th-bourgeois on ghost and on ultimate ghost.

You can download demos here (WARNING HUGE SPOILERS IN DEMOS ):

    Bourgeois Ghosted : http://neuron.tuke.sk/~wagner/bourgeois_ghost.rar (2MB)
    Bourgeois Ultimate Ghosted : http://neuron.tuke.sk/~wagner/bourge...mate_ghost.rar (3.4MB)

    GENERAL NOTES ON DEMOS :
    - they are packed in rar, so dl some winrar (www.rarlabs.com) and unpack them
    - copy demos into your /system folder
    - to run the demo, start/re-run thievery, go to console, type "demoplay filename?timebased",
where filename is filename of demo, without extension. parameter timebased is important.
    - lightgem in demo is not always what it was in real playing, sometimes it shows 30, when it it 0
    - some errors are in demo, like floating doorknobs
    - in demo it won't show if you are leaning, so if i am looking to the wall in demo, i was leaning
    - when you are crouched, in demo you will shake a bit
    - before viewing demo, always re-run thievery

    NOTES ON MY DEMOS :
    - demos are long but fun (well you will see)
    - i used some not well known techniques there, so try to keep your eyes wide open and mouth shut
    - ghost demo is much more easier than ultimate ghost.
    - first demo has a mistake, you will have thief/spec/guard option on screen (i had it). second demo is ok.
    - in first demo, i didn't return one thing to normal state, try to find which.
    - in second demo, i 3 times distracted guards a bit (what's that noise). It could be done without it, but after recording more then 50 times, i was a bit nervous ))
    - if nothing is happening, i am writing something, so wait
    - excuse my english, i did a lot of mistakes in demos.
    - i couldn't use the keys/lockpicks near sleeping civilians, because they will wake up.

If you ghosted some map, post it, especialy if you have proof like demo or something.
After recording this demo, i can say that it was VERY HARD to not make mistakes in whole demo. One mistake, whole demo gone.

I will be glad if you watch this demos and tell me your opinion.

in your haste u must not have read X-Ghost rules. The most complete and newest set of finalized rules out there:

    http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthrea...ghlight=xghost

Lot of the reasons the rules dont apply to thievery is because a lot of them are different based on the fact that AI has patrols (like key drops) and there is no "bumping" so if u walk into a guard he don't feel you.

There is also Thievery Co-op that you can set if an AI sees you or kills you or u KO or kill one..the match ends instantly.

I tried the second one, but it's running at about 1/2 game speed(ugh). I'll see if I can get it to run at a tolerable speed later.

This sounds a thing for me! When i get my thievery back :S
On demand this signature has been changed. I hope nobody was insulted or got harmed due to my signature. If this is the case, I'm fully responsible for the harm that was done. Do you feel harmed or you simply want a listening ear?

I challenge you to kill every genius AI guard on Aquatone with the sword only , using no inventory item , arrow or blackjack. Send me the demo if successful

                  ok, zip files :
                  http://neuron.tuke.sk/~wagner/bourgeois_ghost.zip
                  http://neuron.tuke.sk/~wagner/bourge...mate_ghost.zip

and salvage, play demos with parameter timebased (demoplay blabla?timebased). Than, they shoud play fine.

and Stakhanov, can i use lockpicks ? 8)

                      demoplay 'demo'?thirdperson

                      Is way cooler.
That way you can also see from the AI's point of view.

The .dem file goes in your unrealtournament/system directory. Then you fire up UT/TUT, open the console and type "demoplay [filename]".

To record, open the console and type "demorec [filename]". "Demostop" stops recording.
