    Zenkai Forums... bad news.

LR Hacked the forums and deleted the database!!!!

OK no..not really.. Actually im not really sure what happened to the Database.. i was gonna upgrade my forums, and i was doing a test run and somehow it forked the DB. So i can't find the DB file now, it seems to be gone.

Good news. I have a real server and real web addy now ($30 for the year... its pretty cheap!)

Its not up yet, but when it is, it will be at the latest upgrade (im not upgrading past that) and then it will work great and work with email notification and always be up.. I do, however, have to ask all of you to re-register though.

Ill keep it simple by not requiring email activation.

    Welcome back, d00d.

Are you still gonna run it from home? What forum software? What database? If you were using a local file as a database, I strongly suggest you move on to a database system like MySQL. More powerful, stable and secure.

Email activation isn't really all that complex, and it ensures you have a valid email address for all your registrants, so you know you can contact them if you have to.

        Modetwo..

Im using vBulletin thru WAMPP2. Wampp2 to is an all in one, PHP, Apache, and MySQL server. its at http://www.apachefriends.org

Vbulletin only supports Mysql, but as far as the how mysql stores data, im not sure, so i dont know how to find the old database and try to save it. perhaps u have some info for me, but im at a loss. I've tried the vbulletin repair.php but it didnt help.

So Im goin to attempt to reinstall it, using vbulletin 3.0.

          Hey, vBulletin costs money.

Never heard of that WAMPP2. What server OS are you running at? I know about a great application, that lets you keep a close eye to the MySQL databases. You can easily import/export and create new databases. It's called phpMyAdmin.

yea mode...its on XP right now.. but im uploading it to a Linux server that i purchase for $1.95 per month. As far as phpmyadmin, i have that stand alone program..dont really know how to use it though, and vbulletin and wampp2 has phpmyadmin built into it, so i use thier interface. Ah well.. there wasn't that much on the forum yet anyway besides some good flaming.

But instead of Wampp... i would like to know how to run the server separately.

Would I have to Download Apache

            Then DL PHP

            Then DL MySql?

Or if the server service im paying for already has apache, php, and mysql, I just need to upload the forum files?

OK..using the built in PHPMYADMIN, i found my old database is still in tact, but i get an error talking to it thru vbulletin... I have already started a new database. How do i import all my old data into the new db? I found both folders with all the database info in them.

I don't think so. This is a rented server (actually, just rented server space, right?

I guess the server already got installed these things, at least the Apache webserver. What did you actually pay for? Just server space? Didn't it include php or a MySQL database?

You don't actually have to use phpMyAdmin on a rented server, cause the admin is the one that sets up a database for you. You only need to specify the database server IP (probably localhost), username and password when you install the php board.

Take a look at the hosters website, and check what you actually pay for.

                      No..sorry i confused you..confused myself actually...

If I was gonna run a server from my house on another PC, without using wampp2,
I would need to download and install:

                      1. Apache x.xx
                      2. MySql x.xx
                      3. PHP x.xx

                      all separately correct?

But the server I rent each month comes with:

Apache, php, mysql, cgi, ssl, etc etc etc

So all I have to do then is upload only the vbulletin stuff. I know that much.
