  • ASSISTANCE: Forum installation help onto a rented server...

I'm renting space on a server, with a real web address.

    http://www.zenkai-thieves.com

It's an Apache server that supports MySql, PHP, CGI, etc.

For a forum, I just need MySql, PHP, and Apache.. which is perfect.

So i went to CuteFTP and the following folders exist:

    \mail
    \public_ftp
    \public_html
    \tmp
    \www

I uploaded my index.html file to the \public_html folder

Where do I upload my vbulletin files & my database?

    If I want http://www.zenkai-thieves.com/forums
I assume \public_html\forums\ is where i'd put my vbulletin files, or there is also a \cgi-bin file in the \public_html folder.

Also where would i put the Database that I have? the database is a folder on my hardrive called \VbForums would i upload that to the \www directory? and point vbulletin config.php file to look there for it?

Create a directory named forums inside public_html. Forget the cgi-bin, that directory is only for executing cgi scripts. Put a fresh copy of vBulletin in here. I'm not sure how you install it, but I assume you know.

And, you say you have a database folder on your harddrive. How can that be if it is a MySQL database? Is it exported from the original forum?

Did you get some information from the hoster, about database_name, username and password?

Well its in my Mysql\data\vbforums. All those files make up the mysql database named "vbforums". whenever I make a new Mysql database through PhPmyadmin, it makes a folder in this directory so i assume this is where the database is. How else would mysql store it? its gotta be somewhere.

I'm pretty used to your "hurting" by now. I'm starting to like it.
            The only constant is change.
(And I wouldn't have it any other way.)
