  • Who thinks Hendrix's version of "AATWT" kicks ass?

Ok, some may consider this spam, but i'm bored...(wait, programming, mapping, painting...argh!) ... and I wanted to talk about music.

Yes, I know there have been TONS of music thread, but I want to talk about the music I like.

Point one! I think Jimi Hendrix's version of "All along the Watchtower" is one of the best songs ever!

    What do you think?

How is this different than the last thread you started to talk about the music YOU like?

        That was the other guy

I don't remember starting another one, sorry.

But really, I think AATWT is my favorite song as of this minute.

Its better than Dylan's or Frank Marino's version.

Err, no. It wasn't even a different alter-ego.

But that's rather like midwest weather, isn't it? Wait five minutes and it'll change?

honestly, I think that hendrix's versionis more stilted than the original. to me it just doesn't flow as well.

I love Jimi Hendrix. He r0x0rs. Leave his music alone, don't change it, just leave it the way it is and let me be in peace.

All Along The Watchtower was a cover, so it wasn't "his music"

I've only heard a few Bob Dylan songs. Never got into it. But I was much younger then. Perhaps I should give him a try.

Funny, thats the EXACT opposite of what I think. I like Hendrix's because it DOES flow. I can agree to disagree though.

If you want a mechanical version, listen to Frank Marino. Its...different, but very mechanical.

I just find Hendrix's stuff to be superior to a lot of stuff out there. Some people say "Noise, all noise" but I have a feeling that haven't heard half the songs. People get "Foxy Lady" and "Purple Haze" shoved down their throats, both of which are (albeit great) standard rock and roll songs.

Stuff like "Third Stone from the Sun" and his blues songs (think "Red House") are just amazing.

And for those that say "Its all noise," I say listen to "May this be Love" or "The Wind cries Mary" or "Hey Joe" or....

Steve: "Who's uglier, Bob Dylan or Tom Petty?"
Liam: "I don't know, but Rick's uglier than either of them."
                            Rick: "HEY!"

Yep, a cover. But better, IMO. (Few covers ever seem better to me).

I never got into Dylan. Don't know why...

I can sing like Dylan though...
