  • New computer.

    I'm 99% sure I'm getting my new computer tomorrow.

    Specs are as follows:

    Intel Pentium 4 Processor at 2.4GHz with HT technology and 800MHZ front side bus
    Genuine INTEL D865Perl Mobo
    120GB HD
    512 mb of DDR 400 ram (I'm pretty sure it's 400 at least)
    52x24x52 CD-RW
    Graphic card from my current computer (G4 ti4200)
    17" Samsung flat monitor (not LCD)
    Altec Lansing AVS-300 speakers (3 piece with subwoofer, maybe 5 piece if I want to pay $40 extra)
    Dolby Digital 5.1 6 channel soundmax sound board, digital in and out, 5 speaker support, optical digital output, voice recognition with stereo microphone input, 1394a firewire input
    Microsoft Internet Keyboard
    Microsoft Optical Mouse
    Windows XP
    Microsoft 2003 Software Bundle
    Free Lexmark X-74 Printer/copier/scanner, free 10/100 2.4GHZ wireless DSL router, and free 3 in 1 digital/web camera
    5 PCI slots
    2 ATA 150 (1.5GB/sec)
    Intel rapid bot bios and intel precision cooling technology
    6 USB 2.0 ports
    1394a firewire interface

    Apparently you can OC the processor to 3.0 with standard cooling. :twisted:

    Anything I should change/add before I go ahead and get it?
    The only constant is change.
    (And I wouldn't have it any other way.)

      Well I think you should change GFX card to a radeon 9800. Or I hear rumors that in 2 months Radeon 9900 should come out with a free copy of Half Life 2 and get that.

        How much is this costing you, Dork? I could use a new computer...

          I'm not about to spend another $200 on a new graphic card, when I could use my slightly slower one for free.

          And for me, it'll cost about $400 CAD. Because my dad's paying for the other $1000, and my sis might chip in a hundred or two, but probably not, because she's a bum. The reason for this is because my sister (18) is going to University in a couple weeks, and she needs a computer. She's going to keep the computer I'm typing on right now (a decent P4 1.6ghz), while I get the new one (Well, actually my family does, but my dad barely uses it, and my mom barely knows how to turn it on). Really, she doesn't need more than a 1.6ghz, so I just figure we might as well get a really nice computer for $350 more than what they'd pay for a cheap university computer.

          Ya, that was confusing.

            He's using his current GFX card, not buying a new one.

                    Nice little system. Home build?

                    I assume HD is serial ATA? Which brand?
                    Give some taffer fire, and you'll keep him warm for the night with one less reason to cause trouble for the master.
                    Set a taffer on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life, and have no need to bother the master.

                      Nope. Getting it from a local store. The prices there are amazing, the prices compare to other stores... that don't even give you a monitor.

                      The HD is Samsung. Don't know what RPM's or anything it is though.

                          Yep good stuff allright.
                          Bought myself the same thing....it rox!

                          - 2.4GHz ->OC to 3Ghz (with voltage increase to be safe).
                          - crappy very cheap 512Megs DDR400 memory. Had to lower speed a bit to have stable oc . So don't go cheap on the memory, cause that probably the only thing that gona stop you from OC it even more... I reach 3.3Ghz stable but the memory had to be lower again so 3Ghz was fine with me.
                          - Asus MB P4P800-DLX (Raid GB-LAN usb2 firewire... you name it !!)
                          - Box for the new P4 power supply....
                          ...Cost me 700$can with tax, not too bad.(i build it all myself...ez to do)

                          I had already from old PC :
                          -GeForce 2DLX (no need to change it now i get over 60fps in UT2k3 online with new CPU).
                          -2HD in raid (2x30gig W.D.) + 1 HD from Maxtor 20gig.
                          -Sound card SB live5.1
                          -CDrw/DVD
                          -UPS
                          -Router

                          And got cable soon after that too
                          Before -> After
                          1GHz AMD -> 3Ghz intel HT
                          56Khz -> Cable
                          grrr -> WOOT
                          nuff said :grin:

                            My HDD is only 8GB. I remember when 1GB and 2GB HDD's were considered large. I down to 300MB left. Have to keep uninstalling stuff.

                              You could try getting a larger HD instead....
