  • free popup stoppers, anyone?

Ive been searching around for about 10 minutes, and i can't find any. I am fed up to the gills with popups coming up every 2 seconds, and locking up my pc. Does anyone know of any free software that i could download that would eliminate popups? Another thing, for all you haxxors our there , there must be a way to set Internet Explorer so that only 1 can run at a time, that would be the ultimate stopper. Help anyone?

I've got XP, one way to cut down on the pop ups. Go to start/run then you may have to type in Services.msc
Look for messenger, disable that sucker. It's a nice useless windows feature. When I did mine, it was enabled. That will help cut down on the pop ups.

I have Yahoo DSL, with pop-up blocker, and spam filter, nice little feature.

Stop looking at porn sites and you'll be fine.
          The only constant is change.
(And I wouldn't have it any other way.)

I'd suggest changing your browser to Mozilla Firebird, as it's a shiny open source browser that blocks pop-ups. If uou'd like to continue using IE, the Google Toolbar is free and blocks pop-ups.

Is another choice. Although I can recommend Firebird as well. (See DarkBills post for the link.)

Just curious. Did you ever try an other browser?

Hmm, no i never did try another internet explorer. Anyways, i do have the google toolbar and it doesn't help much at all, plus my dad installed this "popup blocker" software that he bought, which was a waste of money. Thanks guys, i'll try the sites

Then do yourself a favour, try Opera. Built-in popup stopper, and google search bar.

Read what mOdEtWo said here again. It bears repeating.

Although the popup stopper is disabled by default. Simply press F12 and click on "Open requested pop-up windows only" to activate it.

The pop-up blocker I use and recommend unfortunately is not free although it does have a 30-day free trial:

Doesn't your anti-virus software block pop-ups? Mine does anyway...

Since changing to Opera i havent had a problem with popups.

Except with the occasional site that Opera can't seem to display properly.
