  • Concerning Moderation and The Forums....

I figured if we are going to have a flame fest we should contain it to one thread.

These forums do have a problem, and that problem is blatent spamming. We can sit here and argue all day long about whether it really is spam or not but the fact is that the mods of the forum ultimately decide if it's spam or not. Some claim these forums are having problems because of the high number of threads being locked. Well, that should be sending a message that the mods DO find the threads and posts to be spam. By continuing to post threads that you know will be locked, you are deliberately breaking the rules and disregarding the mods and admins of this forum.

I don't really care what you want to talk about, but realize that these are not your forums and if the mods and admins don't want you talking about what you ate last night, then don't do it! Respect the wishes of those who run these forums. Remember, posting here is not a right. It's a privilege.

That works for me. I don't feel as strongly as Omega, but I'm glad he said what he did; the spam is really annoying.

I revoke what I said at the other thread. I officially declare I will follow the rules of this forum and support the decisions of the moderators with my sword and my life. :swordthi:

Edit: And I will blackjack all spammers
Edit2: And BA is cool and sexy... so don't mess with her.

I used to mod a semi popular forum in the past, and rule number 1 is that locking or deleting a thread is an extreme measure only taken against threads with porn, double posted threads or when the thread was created with a sole purpose for spam.

Editing a post can be a far better tool to correct a persons misbehaviour, rather than locking the entire thread and upsetting someone else because the people who didn't spam or whatever were just having a conversation which got unfairly interupted by one single person.

          The Power of 5

          5. Editing posts.
Mod edits are usually added in the following way
          MOD: <message, warning etc.>

          4. Deleting posts.
If a person has placed not one, but alot of spam posts in a single thread, usually all of them but one is deleted and the remaining one is modeditted to give a warning.

          3. Locking a thread.
Read the first paragraph of this post.

          2. Deleting a thread.
Like with posts, threads are allmost only deleted when someone has posted too many of them. This can be an accident (doublepost) or can be on purpose (Think Unstoppable).

          1. Banning a user.
Most powerfull tool of the mod. This is why users fear mods, because they have the power to ban. There's several different type of bans, single user bans, temp. bans, IP bans and Perm. bans. Perm. bans being the most powerfull, where a user is permanently removed from the community.

There's a few other tools the mod has up his sleeve, such as post timers which are mostly used if a person is having a spamstreak (whether or not induced by alcohol ). Some times even a PM can be sufficient.

Thank you for attending mod 101. I hoped I turned you all into better people with my knowledge, there will be no refunds for your stolen time.

            1. Don't compare this forum to other forums. We have our own set of rules, I don't care about what other forums do, or their rules. Similiar to a point, I care what happens to this forum.

            2. I would be here all day editing posts that had spam, I am not going to do that. There is too much spam as it is. It's better, but, there is still a problem with it.
Though I have done some editing in the past of flaming posts, to let the thread continue.

            3. I would have to lock all the threads that do have spam, to get the message across about not posting spam, that's assinine to do anyway, not gonna happen.

            4. Mod's can *NOT* ban on this board, only the administrator can, that is Dalai. Unless there is a mod that can do bannings, I don't know about. Yes, mod's do have certain tools, and *things* that we can do to deal with members.

Enough already! Biohazard you're raising something we have touched upon numerous times before. We don't need another person reminding us that we have to behave and that we should respect the admins etc. This thread is inviting spam  .

No wonder why people are breaking the rules all the time, they don't even know that a sticky thread usually points out something important.
