Try getting a popup blocker such as the one on the google toolbar. I'd also recommend you run this free online scan to see if it can find anything. It is called HouseCall from TrendMicro. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hous...start_corp.asp

Use a browser other than IE. Mozilla and Opera are among the best alternatives.

Run a virus scanner too, such as AVG free edition. AdAware may pick up trojans and delete them, but AVG is more likely to know how they work and get rid of them for good. Some leave backups around along with information in the registry, causing them to be reinstalled every time you delete them and restart.

Back up your data. If that necessitates removing the HDD and putting it in another PC, and you don't know how to do it, pay a friend who does know to do it. Make sure the second PC has up to date virus protection too.

Get a Win2K disc (by whatever means), format your hard drive, and install it.

Keep updated copies of AVG and AdAware running, don't open email attachments unless you know what they are and who they're from, make sure your browser always asks you to confirm before anything is ever downloaded or installed, and be careful who you let on your PC: family members who don't have a clue about PCs are always a bad idea for your computer.

Little sisters might say "Absolutely, I won't open any attachments or install anything", but before you can say "Bonzi Buddy" their fingers will be uncrossed.

well i can back everything up..my pc seems to work fine except that the pest control won't run now and i lost my network connetion (not sure how to get it back). i ran norton which hasn't been updated since like 3-1-04 and it didn't find anything really. everything seems to work except i know there are still some adware crap on my pc and my network connetion.
would system restore help at all? and does anyone know how to fix my network connection to get it running again.

the problem came up like i said with the pop ups. i noticed one of the adwares i had a potential risk was losing the internet connection...well i got pest control which found like 180 things including that one and i deleted everything it found. there were like 6 that it said will be deletd on the netxt boot. so i restarted my pc and bam no internet and right before it starts up some weird noices happen and a weird window that isntally closes before i can read what it says. my style xp doesn't load my theme but it will load it if i open it up manually and reselect the theme. it also says common user sessions encountered a problem...not sure what program that is...i don't want win 2k i want win xp :-/ but i don't have the disk...i may be able to ge tit from a friend though. i can still burn cd's i believe so i can make backups and format but i really rather work around and fix the problem without formating...

System Restore "may" help IF you noticed your computer got f'ed up recently and there is a restore point on a previous day before your computer got infected. I once had a virus that infected the windows kernel itself and the only way I was able to get rid of it was to use system restore to restore to the weekend before I had the virus. Then everything worked fine. About the network connection...try running some of those network wizard programs in the control panel.
