  • *** Lamer of the Year Award ***

Several of us are playing Grange just a few minutes ago. We'd done a good job of trapping and defending the map and things were going pretty good.

Suddenly [Thief Name] dies, and then wins about 60 seconds later. What did he admit to doing? Well, he had 740 loot, no supplies and was low on health. He suicided in an out of the way spot, collected the loot, invoked the loot respawn bug, and then ran past the guards at the exit with an invis/catwalk/speed combo.

What a nice way to avoid those nasty guards.
What a nice way to circumvent carefully placed traps.
What a nice way to avoid teamwork and cooperation.
What a nice way to be an ass.

Makes me wonder why such a person even plays online? You'd think they could suicide/loot respawn/ko AI in a single player game. Since all this person ever does is KO AI's and invoke bugs to win why even play online?

    Am I angry?
    Yes.

I'm angry that one asshole can throw a wrench into teamwork and purposely invoke a bug in order to effect a "win". This coward wasn't relying on stealth, cunning, or skill. He relied on respawning loot in some out of the way location to turn his 740 investment into the 800 he needed to win.

So the unnamed thief gets "Lamer of the Year" award for doing everything they can to exploit a great MOD. Good thing they won it this year, because when 1.3 comes out he'll likely be one of the first to leave. With no bugs left to exploit how will he survive?

I hardly think there will be NO bugs in 1.3.

But that's not the point. I think most of the server admins have stated that deliberate suicide is illegal on the servers they run. Perhaps you should report it. Be sure you include the thief's name, though.

This thief deliberately suicided twice today.

It's not even the dliberate suicide that made me angry (you and I disagree on the validity of that), what torques me is that we had teamwork holding the house down and the wanker deliberately invokes the respawn bug in some out of the way location to win.

I don't see that there's any difference between suiciding to take advantage of loot respawn and suiciding to take a new loadout. Either way, it's abusing the game.

The only difference I see is that THIS time, it was used against you.

I do agree that it's a lame tactic, and is against the rules on the Crackaz server. If it's happening there, it will be dealt with.

The issue isn't suicide or even tactical suicide.
I don't care often the other team kills themself.

What bothers me is the intentional use of a bug combined with the suicide.

The thief took 740 loot to a safe location, died, spawned, gathered the loot and then got the additional from the loot spawn bug so they could avoid guards, traps, and re-entering the house.

I'm pretty upset about this because *I* was lined up to get the award and now this guy steals it from under me like that.

                Theoretical question:

If you had killed the thief (as opposed to suicide) & he had then used the loot respawn bug to win, would he still be lame?

What he/she did was undoubtably wrong, but he/she was using his brains on a level that allowed him to outsmart the remaining guard team & so I don't want to pass judgement on this guy/gal that has just strayed slightly from the path of fair-play.

If we could steer this person back towards fair play, he/she sounds like they would be a valuble team member.

I don't suppose you could PM me the identity of this person so I can talk to them, see what they have to say about all this?

                  Dan:

Had a guard killed him the guard would have allowed the loot to respawn without creating extra loot. This would of meant the thief would of had to face traps/teamwork and re-enter the house. The thief would of had to expose himself while collecting the loot so to answer your theorectical question, no, IMHO that would not be lame.

He intentionally used a bug in the game in an exceptionally lame way as to avoid the opposition. This required no skill, no cunning, no teamwork, and no brains.

It was just flat out lame, hence the award.
