  • Everything (almost) is nerfed.

Whats the deal with just about EVERYTHING being nerfed? Lets list what we have nerfed already(compared to earlier versions and Thief, or just stuff I made up):

Blackjack - only from behind, helmets designed to protect against pointed weapons make it harder to use blunt-force on guards, and something special comming in 1.3
Sword - backstabs don't kill, and blocking restrictions, and noise
Bow - too much damn noise, and no zoom feature
    Potions - again more noise
Flashbombs - guards can swing thier mace wildly instead of naturally covering thier eyes
Lockpicks - too long to pick and lots of noise
Footstep arrows - they are bright RED for gosh sakes, one look will tell you to search somewhere else, and aren't retrievable as noisemakers
Vine arrows - they don't work on grates
Inviso pots - only 10 seconds, and cancel as soon as you attack
Crack arrows - they aren't knockout arrows.
Fire arrows - they don't exist

Everything but the water, moss and broadhead arrrows. Wow, but thats just thief stuff...what about the guards tools?

It takes them a little longer to make a million extra flares.
Firebolts cost just a little more.

Oh, look, they don't really have any nerfs. Yet guards are dominating more and more games, continue to camp, shadowslash, venthunt, shadowrun, flarescan, and firebolt scan, not to mention the fact that some know the maps so well they could play with their monitors off and still win the game...yet they complain when some thief feels its necessary to hit them on the back of the head.

    Go figure.

Thievery is a different animal than Thief1/2. In order to make it work in multiplayer, you have to change things. I know I'd just love to guard maps against thieves when they could knock me out from a mile away while invisible with Gas Arrows.

Despite all my rage, I am still just a dwarf in a cage.

The point isn't that all the nerfs are bad, its that some guards complian too much.

Unfortunatley its something we will have to bear as long as TUT stays runing.

I have a different question: What's the deal with Kiech Bepho?
Man you were fun at first, but right now I only hear whining.

RELAX man! It's a game. Mad_Gerbil was whining sorry -suggesting- ( ) too but at least he was doing it in a funny way.

The game as is, we all agree, favours the thieves IF they have the brains and the skills to play right. The devs aren't gods to take every aspect in consideration. You should see TUT as an experiment, trying to balance things up.

If you have problems with some guard tactics you should consider spectating more and asking for help instead of yelling "Lame" or whining about things that more experienced players know how to deal with.

P.S. You should really start playing online more instead of consuming all your time here in the forums, just to post and reply and post and reply all the time. The game is out there not in here.

Ah, I am just getting stresed out apparently. But I have been playing a lot recently, so now I am seeing how all the different tactics play out. Some of them seem kinda kooky to me right now, and some I really think need to be changed. As I get better at the game, I won't get so upset over different tactics, since there is a counter to just about everything. But honestly, I am having a fun time, and enjoy the game and the players in it.

I know when I first started playing it pissed the hell out of me when a thief would see me in the middle of a well lite room and charge. They would not use and potions or flashbombs, they would just charge and KO me.

Now after playing for a couple of months thief sees me in any area and runs. They ususally run into a shadow area. I still follow and hack away until they die. So now even in a completely dark area I can kill thieves. Where as before in a completely well lite area a thief would kill me. It's all about practicing and learning how to play the game.

So true, the same thing happens to me, but once you learn some strategies, the DMing (at least succesful DMing) stops. I usually never get KOed nowadays unless a thief flashes or invis pot KOs me, or I wasn't paying attention and ran into a dark area without lighting it up first.
                    The only constant is change.
(And I wouldn't have it any other way.)

Last night thieving Nostalgia, Nightstalker found me in the dark room that connects outside. I was completley invisible, but somehow he knew exactly where I was without using any lights, I guess I made a sound or something. But that always seems to happen with flare scanners too.

I respectfully disagree. Even the Gerb recognizes that certain maps are VERY hard for thieves even with a hodge podge guard team.(Skelt's, Aquatone for starters) If you have a well coordinated guard team even the maps that favor thieves can be easily won by guards.

It's all about team work. This game favors neither team exclusively. Yes there are instances that one maybe favored over another but that is by design. It's impossible to have complete continuity without having both teams have the same exact abilities.
