    Reading the Flare Clock made me think of a flare which has a time delay before firing up. As a guard you could deploy these flares in dark areas and then step back. After perhaps 20 seconds the flares could go off. This would add a level of unpredictability in dark areas for thieves.

    How would this be implimented in an easy-to-use mannor?

    Flares already have a time delay of about 1.5 seconds. Use, throw, repeat -- you can trap a thief with surprise flares very quickly. After 1.5 seconds, they have stopped tumbling and then ignite. Works for me.

    Your idea is only half-thought out.
