  • Gibs

OK, I am working on a mutator for this but progress has been kindof slow (the reason will be explained below) so I thought i may aswell ask people for their opinions on the idea:

-In a nutshell, players should gib if they die from appropriate circumstances, which in my view is explosives or falling a long distance.

I just thought it would be more realistic, & the death animations for a player just don't seem right when a player dies from falling.

Now, I've been trawling through ThieveryPPawn to try and find out where the normal UT gib functions have gone and they have been completely blanked out to minimise lag (or so say the code comments).

Now, thats brilliant, but I was thinking that this could be better worked using this method:

-Players can choose in the options whether to see gibs or not (the same as the gore options in UT)

-When a player dies, the ChunkUp (or whatever gib function) is made into a simulated function (somehow) so that each client is responsible for creating their own gibs (it doesn't even matter if the different gibs go in different directions, since it is only a visual effect).

I've given up on the mutator for now, to work on some other Thievery mutator ideas but it's an idea I would like to see working one way or other.

So, to clarify, you want people to explode into chunks of flesh if they fall off a roof because it'd be more realistic?

Ooh ooh! Make death animations like the ones in Legends of Might and Counter Stri....I mean, Magic.

The most common death animation in LoMM has your character dying from what appears to be a bad case of athlete's foot...

(LoMM = Team based FPS, the same as CS in everything except setting, so you have bows and wands instead of guns. But you're still rescuing the hosta....the princess, and escorting the VI....I mean, the Warlord to safety.)

The review I got some of that from, not to mention that I have the game too...

      And note the end:
      + Just like CS
      - Just like CS

I honestly thought that it could be quite messy if someone dies from falling a long height, although I have been playing a lot of UT recently, to get my mind off scripting.

well, given the large amount of Real Death type movies i've seen over the years, my guess would be that if a player fell off the roof - even from the top of the church in korman, they'd just kind of... compact. splatter a bit of blood, but the odds of parts detaching into small bloody chunks is quite unlikely.

when it comes explosions, given the strength of them in Thievery, at most, you'd probably lose a limb closest to the blast, but you wouldn't turn into a pile of goo then, either. i takes an awful lot more explosion to make someone turn from a recognizable human form into a pile of shit.
I'm not so bad... Once you get to know me.

Not that a few people don't have a head start on the process...

/me stands corrected (although I'd still like to see some gibs)

I want gibs... who cares if it isn't realistic...

Makes for some fun action-mine-tripping-over screenshots too

I think guards should gib when KOed. Then when the individual gibs are frobbed on by guards they should turn into little guards!
