Flares

There's the "Thief"-looking flares in TUT, though they are so utterly ugly, the skin, and can't be reskinned without causing a lot of work, unless you're a dev *HINT*

Flares fit the theme. What matters is how they should change gameplay-wise. Do we have an opinion about THAT?

Flares were in Thief and Thief 2. They're gonna stay. Trust me.

I don't see why "flares don't fit the theme". They have electricity, they have flashbombs. Surely they can use light-emitting devices more advanced than a stick with a cloth on fire? I wouldn't expect to see LED flashlights (these things are cool!), but flares are a-ok with me.

I think I heard somewhere in the old forum from one of the developers that something had been done to the flares for 1.3 -- either they were redesigned, or altered, or removed and another light-emiting device will be used.

Am I sucking too many crack arrows or am I on to something?

Yeah, flares threw me off when I was new -- for 15 seconds. Carryable torches are a better idea. Kinda like tag bolts or flare arrows that can be used and frobbed.

I don't really like your idea, but maybe if we would reskin/redesign the flares to look like the ones from Thief 2?

The main problem is that, yes, flares do not quite fit the theme (on the other hand, there's electricity too, if only in the houses of the rich), but how would you explain a torch or a lantern that burns for fifteen seconds and then *poof* goes out? :-)
Candles, maybe, but then - flares do have quite some similarities with candles, look-wise. Cylindrical, with a flame at one end...

I'm not quite sure anyone will agree with me but, I think flares are a bit stupid. Couldn't you do like torches (no not duracell battery operated flashlights), like the sticks with cloth wrapped around at the end and set on fire .

I don't know but I wouldn't have thought flares would of existed in these mediaevil times (if you know what i mean).

Maybe lanterns aswell, I'm just not much for the idea of flares, but thats just me I'm awkward .
