  • Thiefmatch additions, changes.

    Thinks the maps may need changing so that the layout has only a few hiding places and that eash one is only available when a torch is doused, that way you can safely relight each torch to find the man with the objective...
    Grange is a good exaple (inside)the hiding spaces are kept to a minumum space wise, and theres torches to put out relight also aquatone with its light switches. just the vents and some places are too easy to hide in...
    hmm any more would be nice, but please only if you have played thiefmatch
    Already posted at ttlg but ai should not be KOable as it makes it more fun to get others in trouble rather than KOing em all. Kills are okay since they take a lot more time and effort (and NOISE) to pull off.

    Or you could make your own map that emphisises your style of gameplay.

      Anyways it would be too hard to change everymap, just for thiefmatch alone. And second to that, i dont want any changes :p

          Aquatone, gerome, grange and burgouise all play great thiefmatch if no koing ai is in practice, korman aint too bad either.
          Was just pointing out that its best played in levels where loot is in one general small area with few permanent hiding places.... and dousable/relightable torches on it
          On a side note, have either of you played much thiefmatch?

            LOL...I still don't have UT, so no.

            But my point is still valid, if you don't like the thiefmatch maps, then make your own, or bribe someone who will make the map for you. You COULD take a map that is already out there and change it, but as it sounds to me, with the changes you want to make you might be better off just making one of your own. Not to mention that you need permission from the map designer to do it, plus now everyone will have 2 copies of TH-map and just a big ol mess.

            Also, if you decide to make a map understand...you DON'T necessarily need to know how to program it! The programer needs to do that part, if you can find a good one (or several.) You could design for the most part a level on your own on pencil and paper, then recruit some programmers to get the project completed for you. I understand that they like pizza, not so much candy, and money.

            In short (too late) don't try to change current maps, make new ones.

              I could simply ask/get someone to chagne the lights already in maps, plus this thread is for thiefmatch tips not mapping ideas, it was a though about what maps we have now and what are best for thievery

                I know. I guess I wasn't really clear enough. I think that once the maps are made, then they are done. If the designer can be convinced to change them, then so be it. Otherwise, making more maps and having more mappers in the community is always a good thing and will help the community grow. And you said you just wanted to modify existing maps to suit the thiefmatch style of play...while that would be easier to do, then there would just be many many versions of the same map instead of new-imporved maps to keep the interest alive.

                Anyways...I am really just rambling along here. Good luck on your project.

                  TH-Archery... is a BRILLIANT map for thiefmatch.....almost as good as aqua (when the vents arent whored)

                  i was also thinking that a variation on this can be made (for thiefmatch not that map) like in Asylum where a Body needs to be rescued... maybe (so that its not a quick chase for loot etc) make it so that each thief has to carry a body back to a certain point. or even just hold a body for say 20-30 seconds to score a point or something..... adds more to simply rushing the level as best as possible and (afaik) you cant hide with a body in your hands so no more of that hiding wiating for movement... you HAVE to confront another thief, for their body, and then hold it to score, leaving you prone to a good ol from some other taffer hungry for points.
                  Lives could still be left pretty much the same (infinite). just a thought anyway.

                  Also spiders cant be finished in thiefmatch... dunno why but we have tried to ko all guards, get all objectives.... and none works... dunno whats up with it

                    I had all the loot and the tear in Payback but it wouldn't let me win it. We'd already KOed everyone.

                      Thiefmatch just isn't done yet. If nothing else, I'd say that seperate maps are needed to make it fun.
