  • New trap: ?Flour?

I was browsing around here when I found this little quote:

Those words "bloody footprints" caught my eye, so...

Maybe guards should be able to buy flour or something that, when thieves step in it, they leave footprints, and every step they take sounds like sliding gravel or some unique sound. Does it sound like a good idea? It's a kind of anti-thesis to the moss arrow; making you louder and leaving footprints to track you by, even if you're invisible, you can be tracked. Of course, it would wear off after, say, 40 paces.

    What do you guys think?

Hmmm , the whistler sound isn't always easy to locate already. You may locate thieves setting up mines or walking on caltrops if you're near them. But hearing a faint sound and spotting footprints at the right place at the right time... there's already enough confusion.

It may be tomato sauce (potion-like item with multiple uses , say 5) that would basically leave blood traces (AI guards might be confused) when used. Thieves may try to wash it with water arrows before trying the stealth potion combo to get an objective. Such an item could be placed in any kitchen , so that it has limited impact on the gameplay (may be a map specific object as well)

I really like the tomato sauce idea! Maybe it would make the thieves more likely to buy water arrows too. (I always buy 4 additional waters, but it seems others get none !)

When I actually remember to use footprints, they are a marvelous tool for catching thieves. So sweet when you track one down.

I like the idea. It's probably simple to impliment, and is simple to use.

I wouldn't call it flour, tho, since it sounds gravelly. Hmm, I can't think of a better name for it, tho.

If it's left as flour, I'm also envisioning flour bags interspersed throughout a map. Guards can frob them, drop them in an alley, and slash them with a sword to break them open. Or guards can leave them in an alley, and when a thief sneaks by, a guard can shoot the bag to make it explode and coat the thief in white until he jumps in some water! Kinda like a permanent tag bolt. Hmm, maybe not. Perhaps the flour should slough off gradually until after 50 yards traveled he's back to normal.

Water arrows or moss would neutralize a sprung flour trap, and a thief-frob would neutralize a bag (thief can move the bag elsewhere). An arrow can also make the bag explode on a guard. That would be funny.

"Zoiks! It's a ghost!" "Relax, Shaggy. It's just a knight covered in flour."
              "Garlisk's got a lov-el-y bunch of coconuts."

Also, when you fire a water arrow at a bag of flour, it should turn into a loaf of bread

No, that'd turn it into a Bread Dough. If you'd hit the Bread Dough with a Fire Bolt you'd have bread

This one was on the original list, but I've postponed scripting them till 1.3 comes out & I can actually put them in the thieveryshop.

I was gonna have dye bombs/arrows that either left a splash of dye on the floor, or if they hit a thief would cause him to leave footprints for a short while.

I really need to get some scripting done, I'm meant to be doing some modified weapons for NeoPendragon. (half done, but its only a small job)

                        Bump!

I think flour traps are a good idea. Virus's infra potion idea (which allows guards to see footprints) and Muggins's forensic powder idea made me remember this.
