  • Ghost Encouragement Idea

Had a thought that might work to encourage ghosting:
When any guard sees a thief, all guards get the ability to always respawn in a guardhouse. This simulates the alert being put out and so calling in reinforcements. It means that thieves can't win by KOing all the guards unless they're so good at sneaking up on them that they don't get seen.

I would think that a thief would only DM to save his own skin then, as there's little point to doing it otherwise.

Of course, to make things a little more fair, you'd have to do this on levels with no time limits so that the thieves could take their time in sneaking.

It's not an entirely bad idea, however, there's no way to code into the game knowing whether a human player has seen a thief or not, so there's no way to implement that idea.

No time limit is just a bad idea, though. Too open to abuse, both by ragers and by players who just want the guards to leave so they have it easier.

This has already been partially implimented, Kwil. Someone is working on a map (to be released soon) that will start spawning guards after so many have been KO'd. If too many have been KO'd, or too many alarms have been triggered, the heavy artillery come in -- Uber Guards that are un-KO'able, un-killable, Superman sight & hearing, and ultra-speed.

            Yay! What i always wanted!
*Spawn* Run around spamming firebolts. *KO*
*Respawn for free* Run around spamming even more firebolts *SNIPED*
*Respawn for free* Run around shadowlashing. No KO? *SUICIDE*
Only 2 thieves left. *Respawn for free* Camp the objective and stack 300 crates on it (don't worry if you get KO'ed looking for the boxes). Wait for the time to run out.

Sometimes it's necessary to take some guards out, either because of camping or they overcrowding the corridors (Ever seen ALL the guards (save 2 KOs) in Spiders in the exits? It's just impossible to squeeze in, no physical space). Whereas infinite respawning would definitively waste DM thieves, it'd do no good at all to "normal" thieves or ghosters.
