  • Magic Guards

Yup, wizards and mages and shammans and clerics. Thief has a few here and there, and they spice things up a bit, so ya don't have to look at the same guards over and over.

They would need new weapons. All I got right now is firebolt really, maybe a tagbolt or something else. No hand-to-hand weapon. They don't need new AI, but a new skin at least. Maybe less hit points. And new speech. Thats it I think.

I want your opinions unless the programming goes far beyond what I have put here. So, what do ya think?

Hmm, sorry. I don't know. It sounds kinda wierd having mages in game, guess I got scared of the thought having all these mages shoot firebolts etc.

        Discuss away if you wish....

Mages in the game were brought up a LONG time ago, back on the TTLG forum. I've heard a rumor that they are intended for eventual inclusion.

They can be limited to a number of shots, just like anything else can. And they should definatley be physically weaker.

Damn you LR for posting seconds before I did! Totally missed your post. I looked in the TTLG forums, but it was mostly spam.

For those who aren't hip to the idea, thats a valid point too, just say why.

                As AI, like "boss" (Gerome).

Could be. NPC's would be a ripe target for this idea. Such as a priest NPC in your church as well.

An other sadistic idea : if one of theses physically weak , ranged fighting mages comes to be severly hurt , he will change himself into a spider... (not that hard to implement , make the mage AI run at the alarm point and trigger a dispatcher both removing him and spawning/teleporting a spider)

Wow, I think having mages would rock.

It would certainly add a lot to the game, including difficulty. I think it would also discourage open DMing and thieves rushing at guards.

Also, more maps could be created around these AIs (ie, mage towers and stuff like in Thief Gold).

Changing into a spider...hmm. But if he is getting whacked so hard, is he really gonna have a chance to get away?

I also see mages mostly as NPC's. Although in a special map, maybe.

Mages as players would be roXX0rz.

A mage tower level could come with it, too. But making the model would take omg mucho time.

I expect this could be easily implemented in a limited way:

                            (1) Allow the purchase of a "spellbook". This item can only be purchased by guards, but can be picked up by anyone.

                            (2) The spellbook allows you to use the buy menu during the game, using any buy menu gold you did not spend. The only items that can be purchased are fire/tag/paralyze/normal bolts, which as spells are their own weapon-types (when cycling through "next weapon" and "previous weapon") and look slightly different when used.

                            What would happen?

                            (a) For the cost of the spellbook a guard could have slightly more flexibility during the game.

                            (b) Other guards and thieves might not spend all their buy menu gold, hoping to pick up a dropped spellbook. Guards could share a spellbook with sufficient teamwork.

                            Easy or not?

If it works, worry about other spells in version 1.4...

Not easy...yet. LOL. Right now, I think begging for skins would work, and then modifing a few weapons here and there to 'LOOK' like its magic. So don't get too wild here!
