  • Point System Make-over ideas

Since the point system is really...um......messed up (i.e. 300 points just for joining a game sometimes, before even buying a loadout)

Here is a new list of things we need to rank on:

    Thieves:
    First Priority: Loot
Second Priority: OP, but it has to make sense! not 8 points for 2 relics, and 1 point for 1 relic.. that makes no sense at all.
    Third Priority: Human Guard KO's
    Fourth Priority: AI KO's
    -----
Things that should bring score down:
    -Guard Kills/Innocent Kills
-Lives spent (also keep track of how many they used)
    -AI alerted (if possible)
    -----
Things that should be removed or replaced:
-Stealth - should be replaced by sneakiness, or AI Alerted count, Stealth goes down just because there aren't enough shadowed areas, its useless but it counts a lot. I could sit in a shadow all day and get 100% and take 2nd place.

That will make thieves try a little harder, and mess around a little less.

    Guards:
First Priority: Damage (only to thieves, hittin Kevel should not add to it)
Second Priority: Thief Kills (if someone steals ur kill but you got most damage, then you are still in the lead)
Third Priority: Number of Thieves you've caused damage to. (So if you hit 4 different thieves, then you are obviously hunting like a good guard and not camping one spot)
Fourth Priority: Trap Points (If you lay trops or Mines and it hits the thieves, then you should get damage points added to your score, but in a separate category to show you had good trap locations
    ----
Things that should bring score down:
    -Innocent Kills
-Firebolting more than once every 10 seconds (aka Firespam) (lol maybe not)
    ----
Things that should be removed or replaced:
Loot Returned: REMOVE! This is a lamers way of taking high score, Guards shouldn't be able to touch loot, but just let it return normally.. this will also solve multiple respawn loot
Torches Re-Lit: REMOVE! Do you even get points for this? Do cops in real life get points for replacing their batteries in their flashlight?? NOO. Guards relight torches so they can see.. not for points.

    Any other ideas?

Somehow, that doesn't make alot of sense...

Trap points definatley. Kinda stinks that I don't get credit for a kill even though my carefully placed mines took out a thief.

Torches relit, loot returned..dunno, those should stay in, unless something with a higher priority is there.

Ditto on damage should only count if its done to a thief.

#of times an AI was alerted is kinda silly. I could alert an AI hundreds of times, but he'll never know I was there. 'Stealth' although flawed, is really the best representation.

I would like to see more 'tags' during the score screen - and have it placed in smaller text so we can see everyone's stats. Tags like 'crackaddict' or 'shadowslasher' or whatever. Some of them seem too easy to get, like 'sharpshooter' for killing an AI with the bow.

Some of your other stuff, I dunno. Maybe I have to think about it for a bit. Scoring is a ficle thing in this game, since its what the team does that counts. Maybe 'assists' added for helping to kill a thief would be cool.

          # of time AI alerted means when they actually see you and say "You're a pincushion now" or "Zees iz for you" and fire at you or swing at you.

Stealth is lame.. its just based on how many shadows you stay in. No level has a perfect path of shadows so I could join a game right at the end and get 100% stealth and take 2nd place.

Sure it does, people like GreatSnafu who seem to find thieves all over the place and maybe hits them a few times, but doesnt kill them because they escape. He gets damage points, but he may only get in one hit. But if he hits a bunch of different thieves, then it gives him credit that shows that his strategies are good and he is getting a lot of exposure to different thieves, so its someone you would want to spectate now and then.

Stupid argument. It's a team game, who cares about personal score?

Oh, obviously, the players who AREN'T team players....

Not necessarily.. If you are a guard who killed 3 thieves, but a new thief joined in right as the game was ending and he got 100% stealth.. he could take your position.. then it wouldn't be a team score.. it would be the other team,

and why should one person go around collecting loot and getting 1st place when everyone else did all the chase work? If I see someone in the top spot 3 times in a row, without collecting loot... I am gonna wanna spec that person to get some tips. But if its some new person grabbing 2000 loot return, well then there is no point wasting my time.

You're still focussing on PERSONAL score, though, not on whether or not your team won. Again, who cares? Help your team win, period.

You need NUMBERS to tell you who the good players are? Just WATCH them, you should be able to tell by the way they play.

Bottom line is, the personal scores mean nothing, and they'll continue to mean nothing, regardless of how they're overhauled.

Thats not necessarily true, many players WANT to know how they did against others , and use it as a progress tool. You get to review your stats at the end of the game, and record the things you did. Certainly the numbers don't tell all, but they can help.

Just because you want to see the numbers does not mean that you are a shallow idiot. Just like knocking out guards doesn't make you a bad thief.

I've never needed a score to tell me when I've played well or poorly. I can tell from how I played.

Well then, thats nice for you, but does that mean anyone who would like to use the score is an idiot?

No, but it probably means they're placing too much importance on numbers.

Can't you FEEL it when you're playing well? Isn't it just intuitive?

I can tell when I play bad. But I am not going to invaidate something that could be used as a tool to better youself.

How can it be used as a tool to better yourself if the numbers don't mean anything?

Thats your opinion. As a learning player I look at the following:

                              Guard
damage done/kills: Were my hits effective? Who were the other players that got a higer score and what was their strategy?
                              Loot returned: meaningless to me
Torches relit: Was I mindful of the area? Am I confident that I was able to understand this map enough to find unlit torches?

                              Thief:
Loot: Again, my understanding of the map. Did I even know where all the loot was?
KO's: what guards did I really need to KO? Did I KO a guard when I should have ghosted?
Stealth: Was I mindful to stay in the shadows?
OT: What thieves know the map? Who should I look to learn from?

Again, not definitve by any means, but helpful at the least. Its just a tool, not a solution.
