  • New Idea: Grappling hook Arrow for thieves...

I thought it'd be cool to havve thieves get the option to buy arrows like vine arrows, except due to their grappling hook, they could attach to stone or some thing. They should probably be more expensive, though, as stone is more prevalent in most levels than wood is. I think this would be a simple, yet effective addition, at least to the thieves' repetoire.

Maybe, but I think the purpose of only 'vine/rope' arrows is so that the mapper will be able to decide where you can climb ropes at, with no confusion. Although I think many more places need to be accesable by ropes...not too many maps where vine arrows are usefull.

All the maps have someplace where you can use vine arrows, but most of the times those spots can be reached by other (cheaper) means as well.

I think the ROPE should move, like wiggle when climbing, instead of sounding.

Why is it called Vine anyway? It's a regular Rope Arrow from Thief, not green with some green stuff at the top, right?

Vine arrows appeared in Thief 2, about 1/2-way through the game. They were an enhanced version of rope arrows, that could also be used on metal-gratings.

However, the Thievery arrows don't work on gratings & so its a bit daft naming them after the wrong arrow.

Perhaps, but the main point is that you can get there faster with vines. And they are extremely helpful to escape guards. Like in Folly, where the stone coffins are, you can shoot an arrow up to the 3rd floor, climb up and take the arrow and the guard has to run all the way to the ramp or through the barracks to get there.

Or he'll shoot you with a crossbow while you are doing it.
I've seen it in practice, only very few people can pull it off, most people die.
